Kool Aid McKinstry is between 5’ 11 1/2’’ and 6'0" tall and weighs 199 pounds. He has 32" arm length, which is long for a CB.
What stands out from a positive standpoint regarding Kool Aid McKinstry as an NFL prospect are his work ethic, communication skills, and overall intangibles. He got his college degree already as a True Junior ( he only had 3 college football seasons with Alabama).
When it comes to physical CBs, especially in pass coverage, McKinstry is very high up on the list of this year's CB crop. On thing in particular he needs improvement with coverage technique, as improved footwork would likely lead to less Pass Interference and Illegal Contact penalties.
Based on the 4.47 40 Time prior to the Jones fracture surgery, I'm cautiously optimistic that his injury isn't a severe injury that could derail his NFL playing career.
Assuming the Lions medical staff is satisfied with how the surgery went with Kool Aid McKinstry, I think he's a player that the Lions would consider with Pick # 29. But it's more likely the Lions would select McKinstry if the Lions traded down and he's still available. McKinstry only has 2 interceptions in his 3 seasons with 'Bama and didn't have a forced fumble or fumble recovery. The Lions brass puts a major emphasis on takeaways. At Pick # 29, I think there's going to be at least one higher rated option on the Lions Draft Board at a position of need than McKinstry.
