I'm not surprised that the Lions and Matt Nelson went in separate directions. The Lions were aggressive in re-signing Dan Skipper. Once that happened and Matt Nelson remained unsigned, the chances of Nelson being re-signed by the Lions were significantly reduced. The reality of the situation is the Lions need better competition for Skipper for the team's primary backup Tackle situation than what Nelson could provide. On top of that, Nelson regressed as an extra blocker in the 2022 season.
I wish Matt Nelson well with the Giants. Nelson seemed to give the Lions his best. Unfortunately, it wasn't good enough for the Lions to continue with Nelson.
