With Brian Branch being a high level Nickel CB, the emerge of S Ifeatu Melifonwu as a playmaking Safety, and Kerby Joseph likely viewed as an ascending Starting Caliber Safety, it wouldn't be surprising if C.J. Gardner-Johnson got a better offer from another team than from the Lions. Another factor that could easily lead to CJGJ signing elsewhere is he might be looking for a team in which he would be a clear cut starter, who rarely comes off the field on Defense. If Branch, Iffy, and Joseph are all relatively healthy, CJGJ would have a more difficult path to be a clear cut starter, who rarely comes off the field.
At this time, I think it's more likely than not that CJGJ will sign elsewhere.
If CJGJ remains with the Lions, there are 3 reasons that would probably factor into his decision:
1. Unfinished business with the Lions in terms of CJGJ missing the vast majority of the 2023 regular season.
2. Unfinished business with the Lions falling short in San Francisco in the NFC Championship Game.
3. His relationship with Dan Campbell and Aaron Glenn.
