With Alim McNeill's rookie contract set to expire after the 2024 season, it's imperative that the Lions work out a contract extension with McNeill this off-season. McNeill wants to remain with the Lions. The Lions need his services. McNeill is an ascending player. Both parties should be able to find a middle ground that leads to a contract extension for McNeill.

Being that the Lions and Alim McNeill didn't come to a new contract agreement in the off-season (I don't know if one or both parties made a concerted effort), the cost of coming to a contract extension is going to increase if McNeill remains relatively healthy and remains on his current path.

It's best that the Lions and McNeill's agent have serious contract discussions while training camp continues. Setting the foundation for a contract agreement when training camp ends or sometime before the Lions are in preparation mode for the SNF regular season opener vs. the LA Rams.
