The Lions releasing Tracy Walker before the start of the 2024 NFL Free Agent period was expected. There was no way the Lions were going to keep Walker on the books for the 2024 season, under his contract. Even if the Lions were willing to restructure Walker's contract downward, Walker clearly is looking for a better opportunity to be a starter again.

The Achilles Injury was very unfortunate. Yet, even if the injury didn't occur, I'm far from certain Walker would have remained a starter going into the 2024 season. He didn't make enough impact plays to satisfy the Lions team brass.
