Justin Jackson's unexpected retirement forces the Lions to make a move at RB

The news of Justin Jackson retiring not long after he re-signed with the Lions, is very surprising. Once Jackson let the Lions know his decision to retire, that probably was a factor in the Liona signing both Devine Ozigho and Benny Snell.
The retirement of Jackson likely increases the already pretty good chances of Craig Reynolds surviving the cutdown to 53 and being on the Lions opening day 53-man roster. If the Lions also go with a 4th RB/ Halfback on the 53 man roster, the combination is now wide open. Including, the Lions two most recent RB signings being in the mix.
While I'm disappointed that Justin Jackson decided to retire as an NFL player with the Lions, I respect his decision, appreciate his contribution last season, and in training camp this summmer, and that he let the Lions know well in advance of the cutdown to 53. I wish him the best.

Dan Campbell explains why Lions RB/KR Justin Jackson retired
'''''''''
Justin Jackson made a good decision to retire as an NFL player. If there's doubt whether to continue playing, after practicing in training camp for a couple of weeks, it's best to go on to something else. I'm glad to see Dan Campbell being supportive of Jackson and the decision he made.
