Lions training camp notebook for August 5th: Situational game practice ............
Brian Branch has been a playmaker in practice and equally as impressive a rookie who's offering coaching to a fellow rookie DB.
The Illegal Contract penalties the Lions are committing in practice is going to cost the team one or more games, if not cleaned up.
If Dylan Drummond performs in the joint practices and pre-season games at least as well as he has so far in training camp, he's probably going to survive the cutdown to 53 and be on the Lions opening day 53 man roster.
Having said that, the Lions overall WR situation is becoming concerning, when factoring in injuries, Jamison Williams' suspension/ other issues, and concern that age might be catching up to Marvin Jones as an NFL WR.

Detroit Lions observations: Rookie Brian Branch is ‘nowhere near where I want to be’
..........
Brian Branch continues to impress on and off the field.
Germain Ifedi is a better fit at RT than at LT and probably the Lions best backup RT option currently on the roster. Having said that, it makes sense to give Ifedi practice reps and pre-season game snaps at LT. I'm hoping Ifedi can at least hold his own (figuratively) at LT against the Jaguars.

Lions practice notebook for August 22: Defense dominates the day
..........
Excellent reporting by Jeff Risdon.
There's an additional reason why I believe Big V will be starting for the Lions in the NFL season opener at Kansas City. Graham Glasgow is the primary backup Center for the Lions. I'm not sure who the # 3 Center will be for the game. The Lions are better off not risky losing Glasgow to injury, with Big V as a viable starting option at RG.
Amon-Ra St. Brown is somewhere in the Lions top 5 players the team can't afford to lose to injury. He's probably 3rd on the list, behind only Jared Goff and Taylor Decker.
As impressive John Cominsky was in his first season with the Lions, I think he's going to be better this season, providing he stays relatively healthy. The broken thumb injury that kept him out for 3 games, should no longer be an issue.
