The Lions have a better young foundation on Defense than has been the case in a long time. The Lions Defense was a huge part of the team's 8-2 turnaround in the final combined 10 games. With the Lions being in a strong Draft Capital situation for the 2023 Draft and the opportunity to have an average to good Salary Cap situation in 2023, I'm optimistic that more good additions on Defense are on the way for the Lions.

Other than at DT, the Lions have one or more veterans at every other position unit on Defense who's expected to provide a combination of contributing with play on the field and veteran leadership, to help the Lions win games. Good overall situation.

Two corrections from what was written in the article:

1. Aidan Hutchinson had 3 Interceptions in his rookie season (vs. GB, at NYG, vs. Chi.)
2. The Lions had 12 Defensive Lineman or Edge players on the initial 53 man roster. Julian Okwara was placed on In-Season/ Short Term IR since then.

Growing pains for the Lions Defense are inevitable. But the talent on the Lions Defense, including the depth, is better than it's been in at most positions in a VERY long time. Especially, at DE/ Edge, Off the Ball LB, and Safety.

Even if Aidan Hutchinson plays close to the level of the 4 elite edge players mentioned, the Lions are going to benefit greatly.

The Lions run Defense is a question mark. That much more with Isaiah Buggs falling out of favor of the Lions Coaching Staff, compared to where Buggs was at the end of last season.
