Lions open as big underdogs in Week 3 at Minnesota
.........
When factoring in the Lions injury situation. with the game being at Minnesota, in a loud dome, and the Vikings coming off an impressive win over the Packers, the Vikings being 7 1/2 point favorites at this point in time, is a fitting point spread.

PFT’s Week 3 2022 NFL picks
Lions (+6) at Vikings
MDS’s take: The Lions’ offense is better than people think, but their secondary will struggle against Justin Jefferson and the Vikings will pull off a narrow win.
MDS’s pick: Vikings 35, Lions 31.
Florio’s take: This has become a sneaky great rivalry, with a couple of barnburners in 2021. The Vikings should be able to win at home. Whichever team prevails, the final score should be close enough for the Lion to cover.
Florio’s pick: Vikings 27, Lions 24.

A shootout in a loud opposing team's dome stadium, with the firepower the Vikings have, would likely result in a loss for the Lions.

4 Lions who must play well for Detroit to beat the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3
.......
Jeff Okudah is probably going to need frequent help against Justin Jefferson. It's not a knock on Okudah, it's a high compliment to the elite WR skills that Jefferson has.
There's no question the Lions need a strong receiving and blocking game from the TE unit.
Dalvin Cook didn't play in the last 3 games between the two teams. Being that the Vikings coaches didn't put enough emphasis on rushing (running) in their sizable loss to the Eagles, I expect them to be noticeably more committed to the run against the Lions.
ZaDarius Smith might have been the Vikings best player in their loss to the Eagles. The Lions have to be prepared for Smith to be lined in different places, play after play. Including between the Offensive Tackles, both as a DT and as a LB. Danielle Smith is also dangerous but Smith was more impactful in Philadelphia.

Lions looking to snap 10-game road losing streak as divisional play kicks off
.......
The Lions went 0-8-1 on the road last season. The tie (16-16) was in Pittsburgh, the first game after the bye. The Lions were on a 12 game losing streak before the tie. With an 0-8 record before the bye, in the 2021 season.
The noise /communication factor at Minnesota is a large hurdle the Lions need to overcome. It will be difficult, with at least 2 starting Offensive Lineman (including RG Big V, who's on IR) being out of this game.

Detroit News predictions: Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings
.......
If the Lions are in the game until the end, regardless of the outcome, the Lions should be a playoff contender providing injuries don't derail the season. This shapes up as a difficult game for the Lions. That much more with the Vikings coming off a bad performance on Monday Night in Philadelphia.

Detroit News scouting report: Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings
.........
Taking nothing away from Jordan Hicks as an all-around LB, Z'Darius Smith, Danielle Hunter, and D.J. Wonnum are the Vikings players that concern me the most as pass rushers.
It speaks volumes of Dalvin Cook, his supporting casts earlier in his career, and the Lions Defense from the 2018 to the 2020 season, that Dalvin Cook has more rushing yardage against the Lions than any other NFL team. Cook didn't even play in the Vikings last 3 games against the Lions. In Cook's first NFL game against the Lions in 2017, the last time the Lions beat the Vikings on the road, Cook tore his ACL.

Detroit Lions predictions vs. Minnesota Vikings: Will offense stay hot on the road?
...........
While the Vikings held the Eagles to 0 points in the 2nd half of their game, the Eagles Defense did the same to the Vikings. In the first half, the Eagles scored all 24 of their points against the Vikings. Going up and down the field on multiple occasions.
The Vikings Defense will likely not have a repeat 1st half performance from this past Monday Night, tomorrow against the Lions. Being at home against a Lions Offense that will be without at least 2 Interior Offensive Line starters will probably be too much for the Lions to overcome against the Vikings. But if the Lions give Jared Goff ample protection, the Lions should hit on some big chunk passing plays and a number of other shorter throws that help move the chains.

Lions inactive players vs. Vikings in Week 3
...........
It looks like for at least for now, JoJo Hughes is ahead of Ifeatu Melifonwu in the Lions pecking order, at least in part because of Special Teams.
With Demetrius Taylor inactive, I'm not sure who will be fill be filling the John Cominsky role at DT, in expected passing situations?

If this is indeed the case, Logan Stenberg might not last the season with the Lions.
