PFT’s Week 17 2021 NFL picks
Lions (+7) at Seahawks
MDS’s take: Neither of these teams is in playoff contention, but I think both Dan Campbell and Pete Carroll will have their teams playing hard in a competitive game.
MDS’s pick: Seahawks 24, Lions 21.
Florio’s take: It’s unclear whether Pete Carroll’s job is in jeopardy. Lose to the Lions, and things could become more clear.
Florio’s pick: Seahawks 30, Lions 17.

I'm confident the Lions will play hard. But with the Lions current injury and COVID-19 situations, I'm not confident the Lions will even come close to winning this game.

At this time, I believe it's more likely than not that this is Russell Wilson's final home game with the Seahawks. This, with the very realistic possibility that's the final home with the Seahawks for Bobby Wagner, should led to the Seahawks playing with passion. A strong case can be made that Wilson and Wagner are the most impactful players in the 46 season history of the Seattle Seahawks.

Detroit Lions draw 'batted ball' referee Tony Corrente for return trip to Seattle

The only player who was with the Lions for the 2015 game in Seattle, who is on either roster, is Seahawks S Quandre Diggs. The 2015 season was Diggs' Rookie Season. He was selected to the 2021 Season Pro Bowl earlier this month. Don Muhlbach is in the Lions organization. But his playing days ended in August, when he was released on his 40th Birthday.

The Lions haven't won in Seattle since upsetting the Seahawks in the 1999 season opener at the Kingdome. That was the Lions first regular season game in the post-Barry Sanders era. It would be surprising if Tim Boyle is the Lions QB that leads the franchise to its first win in Seattle in the 21st Century. |

Detroit News scouting report: Lions at Seahawks

The Lions starting QB is doubtful for the game. The Lions are without 2 of the team's top 3 WRs because of COVID-19 test results. This is not counting WRs on IR, or in the case of Tyrell Williams, who received an injury settlement from the Lions. The Lions are also without any TE who has played a game for the Lions this season. Even with the Seahawks only giving up 3.7 per rushing attempt this season, I believe the Lions only chance in this game is for the Lions running game to be the focal point on Offense.

Lions at Seahawks: Matchups to watch, key questions heading into Week 17

The Lions are going to have to limit the Seahawks running game without a Safety in the box most of the time. The Lions need to help the team's CBs against WRs D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. They might the best pair of WRs the Lions will face all season or even in the entire NFL.
Bobby Wagner is still one of the best off the ball LBs in the NFL. But, Jordyn Brooks, who the Seahawks drafted with pick # 27 in Round in the 2020 Draft, might already be the Seahawks best current LB. Brooks looks like a foundation piece for the Seahawks moving forward. |
