Last week, the Vikings also had some problems, noticeably the LT Rashod Hill suffered but hey, this was against Myles Garrett ... Kirk Cousin has been inaccurate at times, but mostly under heavy pressure. It will be very important to put maximum pressure on Cousins and heavy blitzing will be needed.
Offensively, the Lions also have some weapons, especially against the Vikings secondary, here again, release time will be a prominent factor.

Myles Garrett is arguably the best all around edge player in the NFL. If Garrett and LDE Jadeveon Clowney are relatively healthy come playoff time ( huge question with Clowney, given his injury history ), the Browns could be the team to beat in the entire NFL.
Unfortunately, the Lions aren't even close to the Browns on Defense, including in generating a pass rush. I watched the last couple of minutes of the Browns-Vikings game. Cousins was indeed under siege.
I agree that the Lions need to bring the heat against Cousins. Otherwise, a slower football death by the Lions Defense on most Vikings possessions is likely.
With DT Michael Pierce highly questionable at best for this game, the Lions could have some opportunities to get the running game going ( though Penei Sewell is dealing with an ankle injury, on top of the injuries to Frank Ragnow and Taylor Decker ). I agree though that the Vikings Secondary is vulnerable. Unless the Lions can run effectively with consistency, the Vikings pass rush probably will dictate the game on that side of the ball.

PFT’s NFL Week Five 2021 picks
Lions (+7.5) at Vikings
MDS’s take: Both of these teams are disappointments, but the Lions are the bigger disappointments. MDS’s pick: Vikings 30, Lions 20.
Florio’s take: Like last year, the Vikings started 1-3. Unlike last year, they have some hope to turn things around. Florio’s pick: Vikings 31, Lions 17.
…………….
The Vikings seem more disappointing through 4 games than the Lions. Expectations were much higher for the Vikings going into this season. The Lions were likely to be 1-3 at best.

5 things to watch: Dan Campbell could become first Lions coach since Rod Marinelli to lose first 5 games
…………
Because the Lions will likely often use a combination of one or two chip pass blockers or keep one or two extra blockers in to help with protection, I don't think the Vikings are going get 10 or more sacks in this game. However, I do think it's going to be difficult for the Lions to have success with longer developing passing plays ( excluding possibly screens ), unless the Lions running game is very effective.

Behind Enemy Lines: Breaking down the Week 5 matchup with the Vikings
……….
Dalvin Cook hasn't been ruled out for the game. He's listed as Questionable, after having limited practice yesterday
.Michael Pierce has been ruled out for the game.
Jeff Okudah was lost for the season in game # 1. The Lions will often likely try to contain the Lions running game without a Safety in or close to the box, in order for both Safeties to provide help for the Lions CBs. That strategy didn't work well again at RB David Montgomery and the Bears Offense, as they built a 7-0 lead and never were even tied in the game again once they scored their first TD.

Detroit News predictions: Lions at Vikings
………….
This is a must win game for the Vikings, which on paper have a difficult schedule ahead. They have a history ( a few times ) under Mike Zimmer of having one unexpected horrific performance at home in a season. Even with the Vikings own injury situation, I'm not counting on this game being the one that the Vikings are looking ahead, instead of being focused at the task at hand.

Vikings make a few roster moves
………
Unless the Vikings suffer an injury at CB during tomorrow's game, it's more likely than not that the changes at CB on their roster in this game won' t impact the game on that side of the ball.

Behind Enemy Lines: Vikings' Week 5 matchups vs. the Lions
………..
The ankle injury that Dalvin Cook is dealing with probably won't be enough for the Lions to win this game. Especially, when factoring in the Lions injury situation. But the door could be open for a Lions upset if Cook doesn't play or is limited and the Lions are on the right side of most breaks in this game. Including, the bounce of the ball and officiating calls.

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings: Matchups to watch, key questions heading into Week 5
…………..
With the Lions having a patchwork Offensive Line, there's a good chance the Lions won't be able to take advantage of weaknesses in the Vikings Secondary with anything close to regularity.
Charles Harris needs to play the run much better than he did in Chicago.
Levi Onwuzurike looked terrific in the pre-season. His struggles in his first 3 regular season games are a reminder of the regular season being on a much higher level. It wouldn't surprise me if Jashon Cornell will get his first opportunity in a regular season game tomorrow, with Onwuzurike on the Game Day Inactive list. So much depends on what took place in practice this week.
Anthony Barr's return for the Vikings will be a huge boost for them if provides the differential all around skills from his past. His height and athletic ability combo gave Mike Zimmer and his Defensive staff plenty of options.

Lions inactive player list for Week 5: Hockenson, Swift among the actives
………….
The Lions got some much needed breaks regarding injuries. Yet, it's evident there's concern that T.J. Hockenson can get through this game in an effective manner, as TE Shane Zylstra, elevated from the P.S. for the game, is Active.
Levi Onwuzurike ( Active ) over Jashon Cornell,( Inactive ) and Daryl Worley being Inactive, are the non-injury decisions that jump out.

………
With Dalvin Cook Inactive, the Lions chances of pulling off an upset increase. Because the Lions got better injury related news this morning than the Vikings, I think the game will be closer than I thought in the days leading up to the game. But with Anthony Barr back for the Vikings and no Frank Ragnow or Romeo Okwara for the Lions, my prediction is Vikings 27, Lions 20.
