Jeff Okudah out for the season with a torn Achilles
Detroit Lions CB Jeff Okudah suffered torn Achilles tendon vs. San Francisco 49ers
..........
Jeff Okudah quotes/ info: 2021 season
lionswire.usatoday.com/2021/09/13/jeff-okudah-injury-update-torn-achilles-detroit-lions-injuries/
This is amongst the worst football news for Jeff Okudah and the Lions. From my point of view, the loss to the 49ers definitely takes a far back seat to the devastating news about Okudah. Especially, regarding his future as an NFL CB the Lions were counting on to be a foundation piece.
Bryant Westbrook, who the Lions drafted with pick # 5 in 1997, suffered a torn Achilles Tendon at Minnesota on a Thursday Night game in the latter part of the 2000 season. He never regained his pre-injury form and only played 2 more seasons in the NFL. While there have been huge sports medical advances in the last 20 + years, the stats / info presented in Dave Birkett's article paint at best a very uncertain future for Okudah as a CB. It wouldn't be surprising if the Lions or another team tries to convert him into a Safety as early as 2022.
I wish Jeff Okudah the best in his attempt to get back on the playing field at a level that he can be a difference maker. It will be difficult for Okudah, both physically and mentally. He will need plenty of support.

A terrible news, he has never played healthy for the Lions. Beyond his personal case, it's another (probable) wasted high pick for the Lions under the Patricia era :/

At the very least, the chances of Jeff Okudah even coming close to play up to his pick # 3 Draft Billing much of his NFL career are substantially less today than before he suffered a torn Achilles Tendon yesterday.

Jeff Okudah will remain at CB, should be ready for training camp
....
The best course of action is to see how Jeff Okudah progresses at CB this coming season, in relation to him coming off a torn Achilles Tendon. A transition to Safety for Okudah would be much more difficult in 2022, because of the rehab efforts and the inability for Okudah to have any Practice Reps this off-season.
