Before the trade, Trinity Benson wasn't on my radar screen. I don't recall Benson from the 2019 Draft process and any play of Benson I might have seen him in the pre-season game.
In reading about Trinity Benson, including the progress he made with the Broncos, and their roster situation at WR, I think this is a trade that makes sense for the Lions. Benson can help the Lions both as a WR and on Special Teams. His separation skills should go well with Jared Goff. Benson also has the football character that fits with what Dan Campbell and Co. are looking for.
The trade is basically for a 5th Round pick in 2022. It probably will be a top 10 pick in the 5th Round. The 7th Round Pick in 2022 the Lions traded in the deal is basically equivalent to the 6th Round Pick the Lions will receive in 2023. This is based on present value being higher than future value by about a Round in most scenarios.
