Detroit Lions observations: RBs Swift, Williams fun to watch; kicking battle heats up
...........
Jamaal Williams by himself could land the Lions on The HBO Series 'Hard Knocks' in 2022.
Being that Randy Bullock is a long time NFL Kicker, a Street FA ( Matthew Wright ) has to be noticeably better to beat Bullock out. Missing a 41 yard FG, which for all practical purposes was an attempted game winning kick, puts Wright in an even greater hole.
The report on Tim Boyle's arm strength is encouraging. Especially, after the concerns about Boyle that were written about some of his off-season team practices.

Several players banged up in Lions' 2nd padded practice session
.......
Considering the injury history of Julian Okwara, the info in the article is especially concerning.
Being that D'Andre Swift jogged off the field, his injury probably isn't leg related. I'm not sure if this injury relates to Swift being kept out of Practice on Monday of this week.

Lions training camp notebook: Defense wins over the fans on Day 4
........
I think the chances of the Lions having 7 WRs on the opening day 53 man roster or in the weeks to follow are closer to 1 % than to 5 %. If the Lions even keep 6 WRs, it probably will be the overall lack of quality depth on the team.
It's realistically possible that Jared Goff is being cautious throwing because he doesn't have confidence in most of the WRs on the roster. Maybe even the vast majority.
It might be a good idea for the Lions to move on from Matthew Wright and bring in another Kicker to compete with Randy Bullock.

Lions training camp notebook: The pads come on for Day 6
........
Alim McNeill's progress is arguably the best Lions story of the early part of training camp.
Jamie Collins seems to be adapting well to Aaron Glenn's Defensive Scheme.
Ifeatu Melifonwu needs to pick up his intensity and urgency.
Penei Sewell should become more discipline as the adjustment back to RT and to the NFL becomes more natural.
CB Jerry Jacobs and OLB Robert McCray could be in the mix to land opening day roster spots. Both appear to be pleasant surprises in the early part of training camp.

Lions training camp notebook for Day 9: Back to the attack
..........
It's great to read that Julian Okwara is back practicing and made a huge impact in pass rush drills. The Lions edge rush situation has the realistic potential to be much better than it was last season.
A.J. Parker and Jerry Jacobs are Lions UDRFA CBs that are having strong training camp performances. One or even both could up ending up making the Lions opening day 53 man roster if they continue to progress. Corn Elder could be in trouble, as his lack of effective versatility on Defense isn't helping his roster spot cause.
Jared Goff is showing he's capable of being an effective deep passer. But his lack of aggressiveness is becoming a major issue.
Amon-Ra St. Brown probably won't be a dynamic player with the ball in his hand. But he is showing promise as a reliable chain mover.
Ifeatu Melifonwu could easily be on the Game Day Inactive List much more often than not, especially in the first half of the season, if he continues to be tentative.

.......
It wouldn't surprise me 1f Corn Elder is off the Lions active roster, one way or another, by the time the cutdown to 85 occurs.
The LA Rams beat the Saints in OT, in the 2018 NFC Championship Game.
I'm anticipating the Lions signing a RB this week. Maybe even by tomorrow's practice. Todd Gurley comes to mind as a realistic possibility.
The news of Tyrrell Crosby being back is a pleasant surprise, being that he has been out with a hamstring injury. Even with a reported Grade 1 Hamstring Injury, Crosby is back noticeably sooner than I expected.
PJ Johnson certainly needed a better start to his 2nd stint with the Lions than this.
Reports on Tim Boyle have been like a roller coaster.
The Jared Goff to Tyrrell Williams long pass is encouraging on multiple fronts
It looks like Jack Fox has rebounded from a slow start in training camp.

Lions training camp notes: The heat is on for Aug. 10th
.......
If Austin Bryant avoids a significant injury the remainder of training camp, the pre-season, and the days leading up to the cutdown to 53, I think he will be on the Lions opening day 53 man roster. Bryant's physical talent indeed gives him opportunities many other players wouldn't get.
The Lions. eventual # 3 TE for most of the 2021 season could easily not currently be on the Lions roster.
Darius Jennings is likely going to be in the realistic mix for a spot on the Lions 53 man roster. His kickoff return history with Tennessee in 2018, is attention getting.
My gut feeling at this time is Nickell Robey-Coleman will be with the Lions during the regular season.
T.J Hockenson and Da'Shawn Hand's respective injuries are concerning unless/ until proven otherwise.
Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell finally moved on from Matthew Wright ( after this report was written).
Logan Stenberg seems on a path to the waiver wire later this month.
Penei Sewell is getting invaluable practice reps.
