In the Steelers 26, Lions 20: Pre-Season Game # 2 ( 2021 ) thread, I expressed the following:
Some others players that I thought played well are:
2. Tavante Beckett. Very active against the run when given an opportunity late in the game. Including in the Steelers backfield. He looks like a noticeably better option than Jahlani Tavai. If a 2nd UDRFA makes the Lions 53 man opening day roster, Beckett made a case last night for that opportunity.
Assuming for the sake of discussion that Jalen Reeves Maybin will survive the cutdown to 53 players because of his Special Teams play, 4 ILBs would then be locks to survive the cutdown, barring the injury factor or something out of the ordinary. The other 3 being Jamie Collins, Alex Anzalone, and Derrick Barnes. If only one other ILB survives the cutdown to 53, I hope it comes down to Anthony Pittman and Tavante Beckett. Jahlani Tavai is too limited to justify keeping over Pittman and Beckett.
At this time, my preference is for Tavante Beckett to be the Lions 5th LB following the cut down. As a Defensive role player and one who looks like has the skills to be a big time Special Teams player, Beckett is someone who I think could very realistically be claimed off waivers if exposed to the waiver claim process.
