Lions RB D'Andre Swift would welcome Todd Gurley to the team
.........
Todd Gurley had been on the biggest NFL stage, playing in the 2018 season Super Bowl. His big game experience and overall experience can help in the development in D'Andre Swift. But unless the Lions suffer a major injury at RB snd Gurley is still available, I don't think the two parties are going to come to a contract agreement.

Dan Campbell declares the Lions still have interest in RB Todd Gurley
............
The Lions and Todd Gurley are smart to explore the option of the two parties eventually working out a contract. If I were in Gurley's position, I would wait to see if a major need at RB occurs on an NFL roster this summer or early in the regular season, before signing a contract.

If J.K. Dobbins is out for the year in Baltimore, could Todd Gurley be in?
..........
Hopefully, there's better news regarding J.K. Dobbins knee injury than the Ravens fear is the case.
The knee injury Dobbins suffered probably will make Todd Gurley a better fit for both Gurley and the Ravens than would have been the case if not for Dobbins' knee injury. If Gurley doesn't sign with the Ravens, that likely doesn't bode well for his NFL playing future.

Ravens lose J.K. Dobbins to torn ACL
......
The good news under the horrible circumstance is J.K. Dobbins has youth on his side. He won't turn 23 until December. Younger players have a better chance at a full or near full recovery with similar injuries, compared to older players.

The Dobbins'case raises once again the question whether it is useful to play starters in preseason games ... Dan Campbell has been on the cautious side in this regard.

Though I expressed that because the 2021 season is mostly about putting a long term foundation in place and player development for the Lions, I respect Dan Campbell's decision to sit out many key players in the final 2 pre-season games. The injury to J.K. Dobbins and the knee injury that Vikings TE Irv Smith suffered in their respective team's final pre-season game certainly supports Campbell's decision and led me to reflect on my previous comments in the DLF, about whether the 2021 Lions should play relatively healthy starters in the pre-season.
Related to this is the broken thumb that Lions QB Tim Boyle suffered in the final pre-season game. It could have been Jared Goff, as Penei Sewell was partially responsible for Boyle getting hit. However, if Goff played, Taylor Decker, not Tyrell Crosby ( who clearly was still dealing with a hamstring injury ) , would have protected Geoff's blind side.

.......
The Ravens season could be derailed even before the regular season begins.
If they elect not to sign Todd Gurley by sometime next week ( when his contract won't be automatically guaranteed for the season ), Gurley's NFL playing career more likely than not over.

.......
It wouldn't surprise me if the Ravens attempt to sign RB Craig Reynolds off the Lions Practice Squad in the coming days or weeks.
