With the Lions expected to rebuild this season, I'm surprised the Lions are apparently on MNF in 2021.

Lions vs. 49ers, Bears at Rams, feature Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford vs. former divisional opponents. Adds intrigue to the games to begin the season.

Without seeing any opening point spreads beyond week # 1 games, the Lions will almost certainly be underdogs for the first 5 games with point spreads that come out in the present. What happens as each game approaches remains to be seen.

The Lions bye week is much later than it's been in recent seasons. This, coupled with the 10 games between the Lions Thanksgiving Day game and the home game vs.the Vikings, should enable the Lions to be more fresh for the stretch run than most NFL teams.

Assuming that Mandatory Cutdown Day to 53 players will be the Saturday before the Thursday Night opener to begin the regular season, a major change will be taking place compared to the last time ( 2019 ) there were pre-season games. Unlike in past seasons in which the final pre-season game was the last football played before the mandatory cutdown, there will be a full week of practice before the mandatory cutdown. How the Lions and each team approaches this change remains to be seen.
