Unfortunately, there is no optimal solution to compensate for Decker's absence :/

It seems like the type of situation in trying to minimize the loss of Taylor Decker as much as possible.

Nick Bosa: Detroit Lions' Penei Sewell looks 'more comfortable' playing left tackle
........
This thread relates to the following thread:
49ers 41, Lions 33 : Game 1 (2021 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1181/49ers-41-lions-game-2021
The Lions were giving both Tackles chip help. But as the game went on, it seemed like Matt Nelson was getting more chip help than Penei Sewell.
In the 4th QTR, especially late in the game, I noticed Nick Bosa playing LDE more often. The 49ers Coaches saw that Matt Nelson was the Lions weak link on the Offensive Line and tried to take advantage of that with their best Defensive player.
The major question mark with Penei Sewell beyond the next few weeks is whether the Lions brass believes that Sewell will eventually become at least as proficient at RT, compared to his play and potential at LT? Especially, since a transition to RT for Taylor Decker during a season he would be coming off an injury, will be very difficult.

Lions OL coach Hank Fraley ends talk of keeping Penei Sewell at LT once Taylor Decker returns
……….
My impression with what Hank Fraley expressed is nothing etched in stone once Taylor Decker as expected is back. How Penei Sewell performs at LT in the coming games while Decker remains sidelined will probably go along way in how the Lions proceed once Decker is back.
The most likely outcome for the rest of the season, when as expected Decker is back, is Decker is the Lions LT and Sewell is the Lions RT.

………….
Considering Penei Swell got all his practice and pre-season practice reps/ snaps at RT, until 4 days before the start of the regular season, Sewell's start to the season at LT is better than I expected. Great job under very difficult circumstances by Sewell!

Anthony Lynn: Right now, we’re planning on going without Penei Sewell this week
…………
I think the most likely Lions combination at LT and RG in Minnesota is Big V is at LT and Logan Stenberg at RG. Big V more than held his own at LT during the 2017 season playoffs, in which the Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl. Including, a one sided home game win vs. the Vikings in the NFC Championship Game.

Lions first-rounder Penei Sewell pitches shutout in debut at right tackle ........
This thread relates to the following thread:
Lions 16, Steelers 16 ( OT ): Game # 9 ( 2021 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1255/lions-16-steelers-game-2021
Penei Sewell did a very good job in this game. Definitely, one of the Lions best and most consistent performers. Yet, in addition to the Lions limited passing plays that were beyond quick screens, Sewell had chip blocking help on occasion. One of the plays was when T.J. Watt was already done for the day because of injuries. Both Taylor Decker and Sewell had chip blocking help on the play. Yet, the Steelers still got a sack against Jonah Jackson on a stunt coming from the outside in ( which was on the opposite side of the field Sewell was on ).
This game is a good building block for Sewell at RT. If he goes up against Jadeveon Clowney and then Khalil Mack in the next two Lions games, those will be additional difficult tests for him. With help likely provided for Sewell.

Lions rookie RT Penei Sewell earns high praise from PFF
.........
Penei Sewell has already displayed differential run blocking ability / play at both LT and RT. Sewell's ability and willingness to make an initial block and then get into position to successfully block another defensive player, is extraordinary.
Granted, Sewell has had chip blocking help as a pass blocker at times. Yet, for someone who didn't play last season in College, was only 20 years old in the early part of this season, and had the unexpected NFL position change to LT after Taylor Decker suffered a hand injury 4 days before the start of the regular season, he's probably exceeding expectations.

Not satisfied with rookie season, Lions' Penei Sewell identifies offseason focus
.......
Penei Sewell is already one of the best Run Blocking Tackles in the NFL. Sewell made substantial strides as a Pass Blocker. It's encouraging to see that he knows that he needs to continue to improve and remain focused. Ideally, Sewell will be able to remain at RT for the entire 2022 season, which would increase the chances of Sewell having a Pro Bowl caliber 2022 season.
