Lions OC Anthony Lynn checks out Penei Sewell at Oregon pro day
.......
This new thread relates to the following thread:
Lions have Pick # 7 in the 2021 NFL Draft
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/865/lions-pick-2021-nfl-draft
For a LT, 33 1/4" arm length is significantly below average. To the point that I now am concerned that Penei Sewell would't provide enough long term value for the Lions with pick # 7. Ironically, he would probably provide better short term value, if used at RT or either Guard position. With LT Taylor Decker coming off a Pro Bowl caliber season, Decker would probably remain at LT for at least the 2021 season, if Sewell is drafted by the Lions.

The Bengals remain the favorite to take Sewell in the NFL Draft
.......
Based on the Bengals draft history, I'm not counting on the Bengals trading down with a team that would draft a QB with pick # 5. Hence, I'm hoping they draft Penei Sewell with pick # 5. I'm not as confident as most teams are that the Bengals will take Sewell. The combination of Ja'Marr Chase being on the receiving end of the prolific QB-WR combo of Joe Burrow to Ja'Marr Chase ( which helped result in LSU winning the National Title in College Football in the 2019 season ) and Sewell having short arms for a LT prospect, easily could result in Chase being their selection.

Penei Sewell training at right tackle in addition to left tackle
.....
In the Lions case, as long as Taylor Decker is relatively healthy, he will be the Lions starting LT in the 2021 season. And likely, at least for the 2022 season. If the Lions draft Sewell, he will very likely be starting at RT or one of the Guard positions.
The Broncos are set at LT with Garett Bolles. But they have uncertainty at RT. If Sewell lasts to pick # 9: If the Broncos still have that pick, and unless a QB that they like enough is available, Sewell would appear to be a prime contender to be their selection at # 9.

The Nine: Big, bad Penei Sewell could turn Lions’ offensive line into one of NFL’s best
.....
So much depends how much value the Lions brass places on the RT position, relatively speaking to other positions. Especially, LT. With many teams having an edge rusher at LDE who is often impactful as a pass rush and the Lions emphasis on the running game, I think Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell will value Penei Sewell enough to draft him with pick # 7 under some draft scenarios. Including, my Mock Draft projection. Having said that, a good trade down offer probably would be even more appealing to Brad Holmes. It would be for me.
Regarding, Rashawn Slater, he was Northwestern's starting LT as a Junior and as a Senior. His starting experience at both Tackle positions on the Big Ten level is a plus.

Justin Herbert doing his best to get Penei Sewell to the Chargers
......
I hope the LA Chargers brass has a similar opinion and desire for the team to trade up for Penei Sewell. I'm not counting on it. But it's the case and Sewell is available when the Lions are on the clock with pick # 7, the Lions would at least get one trade down offer that would make sense to accept.

Anonymous scouts make one last run at sparking a Penei Sewell slide
.........
As long as Taylor Decker is on the Lions roster, available to play, and is relatively healthy, the Lions wouldn't need Penei Swell to be on the level of Jonathan Odgen, Joe Thomas, Walter Jones, and / or Orlando Pace. Unlike those excellent former LTs, Sewell would be playing RT or one of the Guard positions. RT would be his most likely position for at least most of his rookie contract. If the Lions brass feels that Sewell would become be a Pro Bowl caliber RT and / or Guard and that would provide the Lions with enough value to warrant pick # 7, then Sewell would make sense for the Lions at # 7.

Penei Sewell might be playing for his favorite team growing up! Maybe Penei could be the person who bridges the many differences between the Lions and Calvin Johnson. 😂

Taylor Decker in favor of Lions selecting an offensive lineman in the first round
.......
The Lions probably will pass on Christian Darrisaw with pick # 7. Darrisaw might be the best fit for LT in this draft. He combines athletic ability and length. For the Lions, it's more likely that Penei Sewell or Rashawn Slater will be pick # 7 than Darrisaw. The consensus opinion is both will be drafted ahead of Darrisaw. With the latter being drafted somewhere in the teens.
