Los Angeles Rams DL Michael Brockers being traded to Detroit Lions, source says
Lions acquiring defensive tackle Michael Brockers from Rams
Report: Lions finalizing trade for Rams DL Michael Brockers
.......
Because the Lions are primarily focusing long term , Michael Brockers would count $ 8 million on the Lions 2021 Salary Cap, and that Brockers already turned 30, I'm very surprised the Lions are trading for Brockers. Because trading Brockers would save the LA Rams $6.167 million in 2021 salary cap space, and the high cost for the Lions to add Brockers to roster, I don' t expect the Rams to get much for Brockers. I would be even more surprised if the Lions gave up the equivalent of a 4th Round pick in 2021. I think it likely will be for a lot less. With a chance the Rams give the Lions the equivalent of a late round pick as compensation, because of salary cap ramifications.
IMHO, Michael Brockers has been one of the best run Defenders in the NFL for a long time. He's an above average interior pass rusher. Brockers length is a huge asset for him in both against the run and the pass. If the Lions were much closer to being a team that has major aspirations to reach and advancing in the playoffs, I would have been comfortable if the Lions gave the Rams as much as a 3rd Round pick for Brockers.

.......
Even factoring in the 2021 Salary Cap ramifications of Michael Brockers contract in a year that the NFL Salary Cap is $ 15.5 million lower than the previous year, I think this is a good trade for the Lions.
Being that Michael Brockers has been relatively durable and looks like he keeps himself in great physical shape, there's a good chance that Brockers won't have a noticeable drop-off in ability in the 2021 season.
Michael Brockers was one of the leaders on the Rams for a long time. He's the type of player who can help set the wheels in motion for eventual long term Lions success. With the chances increasing of the Lions winning more games in the 2021 than most are expecting at this time. Brockers is the type of player whose skills fit in multiple Defensive Systems. He's a major loss for a Rams team that has Super Bowl expectations.

Report: Michael Brockers finalizes new contract with Lions
.........
It's a contract that makes sense for the Lions. The expectation probably is for Brockers to be with the Lions for at least 2 seasons. With the flexibility to move on after one season or even trade Brockers before the 2021 Trade Deadline.
The next question on this end becomes how much of Brockers' new contract counts on the Lions 2021 Salary Cap?

Michael Brockers leading way for Detroit Lions’ new attacking defensive front
.......
Michael Brockers has the perspective of someone who played on losing record teams the first 5 seasons of his NFL career ( first 4 with the St. Louis Rams ) and eventually played in a Super Bowl with the LA Rams. Brockers can be very helpful with efforts for the Lions to have an even keel. Handling failure and/ or success can be challenging. Especially, for someone who didn't experience one or both on the NFL level.

Michael Brockers embraces Detroit fans, takes shot at Matt Patricia's communication skills
.......
.Two thoughts come to mind:
1. Being that this is the first NFL season since coming into the league that Trey Flowers is in a 'Patriot Way' organization, I wonder what his thoughts are on the difference between the current Lions Coaching Staff, compared to the previous one?
2. Lions fans are loyal and passionate. That's an understatement. But it's a fan base that will put pressure on the Lions players and entire organization. That's a reflection of the passion of the fan base. This is something Brockers will have to adjust to, as the Rams fan base, both in St. Louis and then in Los Angeles is far less passionate.

Lions DL Michael Brockers excited to face old team, finds a purpose in Detroit
………..
This thread relates to the following thread:
Bengals 34, Lions 11 : Game 6 ( 2021 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1224/bengals-34-lions-game-2021?page=1&scrollTo=6184
The Rams moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2016, which was Jared Geoff's first NFL season.
Todd Wash's comments were made last week.
The loss to the Bengals didn't look like one of Michael Brockers' better performances. This is even factoring in that Brockers might have deflected tbe screen pass from early in the 3rd QTR, intended for Joe Nixon.
I thought Brockers was playing well against the run for the most part in the Lions other recent games. In fairness to Brockers, he's been limited at practice much more often than not, even going back to training camp. The shoulder injury that has Brockers listed on the Lions injury report regularly likely is limiting what he can provide in games. The injury might have worsened.
If the Lions were playing any other team than the LA Rams this week, I think it would probably be best if Brockers wasn't on the Game Day roster for the game. A week of rest could make a difference in Brockers getting back on track. A week of rest for Brockers is something the Lions probably should consider in the weeks ahead. This, in addition to the bye week.
