NFL Free Agency Preview: Defensive Lineman ( 2021 )

This new thread is a continuation of the thread, the threads in that discussion, and the thread.
Many underestimated the chances of Romeo Okwara resigning with the Lions because they didn't put enough weight on Romeo remaining teammates with his brother Julian Okwara.
The price per season to re-sign Romeo Okwara is greater than the 3 yr. / $ 30 million ( $ 10 million a season ) that was what many, including myself ) thought it would take for the Lions to re-sign Romeo Okwara. Yet, until the guaranteed money and structure of the contract becomes known, I'm not going to comment on whether I think the Lions made a good decision to re-sign Okwara. I am though very happy that Romeo and Julian remain teammates and that the Lions have one less major need.
Even with Romeo Okwara, Trey Flowers, Julian Okwara, and Austin Bryant, the Lions could use another edge rusher with plenty of upside potential. But DT now becomes the position unit on the Defensive Line that clearly needs to be the priority to address in the coming days and/ or months.

Romeo Okwara does not come cheap but as you say, terms are important, how much guaranteed, no tag / no trade, bonus ? 3 years looks like a good duration for a 26-year player though.

Instant reaction: Lions keep DE Romeo Okwara in free agency
.........
Frenchy, though the Tweet by Tom Pelissero doesn't have all of the information on Romeo Okwara's contract that's relevant, it has some key information.
The 3 year duration of the contract is indeed a good duration for someone at or near Romeo Okwara's age and abilities. I think this is the most important aspect of the contract, when looking at the overall information available.
My take is that the minimal expectation is Okwara will be with the Lions at least the first 2 seasons of the contract. If the team brass doesn't feel Okwara is providing enough value: The Lions will be able to move on from Okwara for year 3 of the contract ( minus the portion of his signing bonus applied to the 2023 salary cap ). With the Lions realistically looking at year 3 of the Brad Holmes/ Dan Campbell regime as when the wins should be coming much more frequently, having flexibility in 2023 with how to proceed with Okwara is a very good decision by Holmes and Co..

Why Lions EDGE Romeo Okwara is a great breakout candidate for 2021
....
Two questions marks in particular with Romeo Okwara, not mentioned in the article, come to mind:
1. Will Romeo Okwara handle extra attention that comes his way better when he's in pass rush mode? This is an area he needs to improve in compared to the 2020 season.
2.. Will he make major strides in pass coverage, compared to his reported off-season open practice struggles in this facet of play?
