Report: Jets place franchise tag on Marcus Maye
.........
With the Jets trading S Jamal Adams to the Seahawks last summer and the Jets having the 2nd most salary cap space in the NFL, it was highly likely they would place the Franchise Tag on Marcus Mate if they didn't work out a long term contract agreement with him. My gut feeling is that the two parties won't come to a long term contract agreement by the mid July deadline.

Washington tags Brandon Scherff again
.....
Even with WFT having the 6th best salary cap situation in the NFL ( close to $37 million in cap space ....not counting the Franchise Tag cost.. based on a $180.5 million NFL Salary Cap ), for practical purposes they are going to need to work out a long term contract with Brandon Scherff. Without a long term contract coming this off-season?, the Franchise Tag of slightly over $ 18 million for a Guard isn't an efficient way of using cap resources. That much more in a year the NFL Salary Cap is very likely headed for a reduction.

10 NFL players get franchise tags
.......
The only surprise to me in terms of the players that received the Franchise Tag is the Saints placing the Franchise Tag on S Marcus Williams. The Saints had by far the worst Salary Cap situation, even before placing the Franchise Tag on Marcus Williams. They are now somewhere around $ 56 million over the salary cap.

.......
If the Lions would have used the Franchise Tag on Kenny Golladay, the cost would have been $ 15.983,000. In essence, $16 million, which was the projected approximate number.
