In the thread, NFL Free Agency Preview: Wide Receivers ( 2021 ), I expressed the following:
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/932/free-agency-preview-wide-receivers
Tyrell Williams played two seasons under Anthony Lynn with the LA Chargers. Williams never missed a game in the NFL until the shoulder injury that sidelined him for the 2020 season.
If Anthony Lynn believes Tyrrell Williams would be a good fit with the Lions, gets a favorable medical report if examined by Lions doctors, and does well in a team workout, he would be well worth considering at much lower contract numbers. Williams' size / speed combo likely opened the door for him as an UDFRA with the San Diego Chargers in 2015. The Lions brought in Williams for a Pre-Draft visit that year.
Tyrrell Williams turned 29 last month. The Lions plan regarding Williams probably is something along the lines of see what transpires with Williams in the 2021 season. Then assess whether he looks like he can be part of the Lions solution when the team brass expects the Lions to be a legit playoff team.
How much of the contract is incentives will help assess the decision by the Lions to come to contract terms with Tyrrell Williams.
It's now less likely that Kenny Golladay will play another down for the Lions.
The Franchise Tag is still a realistic possibility with Golladay, for the purposes of trading him. But more salary cap space will have to be freed up by the start of the FA period 2 weeks from today.

Tyrell Williams contract with the Lions is less expensive than initially reported
......
This is an illustration why it's important to properly vet information, instead of assuming it's true.
This is a contract I'm comfortable with. The expectation by the Lions brass likely is for Tyrrell Williams to be one of the Lions 3 top WRs for the 2021 season. If Williams has the type of season with the Lions that the Raiders expected when signing him to a much higher valued contract in 2019, there's a pretty good chance the two parties will agree to another contract in 2022.
