If Bob Quinn would have been retained as Lions GM, most likely Steven Wirtel would have been signed to a Futures Contract. With the plan of Wirtel being the Lions LS in 2021.
With Wirtel now with the LA Rams, it's easier to envision Don Muhlbach being re-signed by the Lions. Muhlbach won't be in the Lions long range plans. Yet, as an NFL Veteran Minimum contract player, the value of Muhlbach for the Lions appears greater than going with a developmental player at LS. The Lions need some veteran player leadership. It can't all come from coaches, even the many on the Lions staff that played in the NFL.
Right now, I think there's about a 55 % chance Muhlbach resigns with the Lions. With an UDRFA or Street FA being brought in for competition.
