Lions activate Darryl Roberts from IR, sign Frank Herron, and release Marvin Hall, Isaac Nauta

Lions release WR Marvin Hall

The plan for the Bears game probably is for Darryl Roberts to be the Lions # 3 CB. Both Roberts and Justin Coleman have the versatility to play outside and in the slot, which gives Cory Undlin more flexibility.
Good decision signing Frank Herron from the PS. Herron doesn't remind anyone of Akiem Hicks. But he's a far better option than Albert Huggins. Herron showed promise in the Lions win over the WFT. IMHO, he didn't perform as well at Carolina the following week.
It's not surprising that Isaac Nauta got caught in a numbers game. He probably will get another PS opportunity with the Lions, if he clears waivers ( most likely will. ). Nauta might choose to sign a PS contract with another team, if given the opportunity. With Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia being shown the door, Nauta understandably could be looking for a stable team brass situation.

It would be nice to see Frank Herron again, it's his second year and he has yet to prove that he can be more than a PS player. He's got to show his abilities by the end of the season, else...
Mohamed Sanu being in the WR squad, maybe Marvin Hall was Stafford's less trusted receiver ?
I also think that there's a psychological aspect in roster moves, directed towards the players (no one is indispensable) and the fans / media (let's move forward)

Kevin Strong, who probably has more natural ability than Frank Herron, also needs to step up. Strong was a bright spot in the loss in Green Bay back in September. That was his only opportunity in a game this season under the Bob Quinn / Matt Patricia regime.
With Quinn and Patricia gone, the interim team brass re-signed Kevin Strong to the Practice Squad on Monday and then to the 53 man roster on Tuesday. That, combined with the Frank Herron addition to the 53 man roster, are encouraging signs that the Interim team brass is at the very least increasing the Lions chances at future success.
Mohamed Sanu provides a more reliable and NFL experienced option than Marvin Hall. Someone Matthew Stafford likely trusts more to help keep the chains moving and in the Red Zone.
