Lions place Desmond Trufant, Danny Shelton on IR

It wouldn't be surprising on this end at all if Desmond Trufant and / or Danny Sheldon played their last downs with the Lions. Both have contracts for 2021 that would free up salary cap if they are released.

Aaaargh I like Danny Shelton, he has a high motor ! I've often seem him 10 to 15 yards downfield chasing the ball carrier, he never quits !!

Related to what you mentioned, Danny Sheldon has clearly been helpful to rookie DT John Penisini this season.

Because Danny Sheldon's base salary is currently $ 4 million in 2021, my guess is the Lions will ask him to restructure his contract downward. If the NFL Salary Cap goes down to $ 175 million or close to that in 2021, I don't think Sheldon will remain on the roster in the 2021 season under the terms of his current contract. That much more if the Lions go to a more upfield attacking Defensive System.
