NFL Week 12 2020 picks
Texans (-3) at Lions
MDS’s take: The Texans are coming off perhaps their best performance of the season against the Patriots, and the Lions are coming off perhaps their worst against the Panthers. Houston will show it’s continuing to play hard for Romeo Crennel.
MDS’s pick: Texans 27, Lions 17.
Florio’s take: If the former Houston Roughnecks quarterback can master the Lions, the current Houston Texans quarterback should be able to do it, too.
Florio’s pick: Texans 24, Lions 17.
.........
The Lions annual Thanksgiving Day game is in essence the Lions version of the Super Bowl. The tradition of this game goes back to 1934. If Matt Patricia isn't on the winning end of this game, he will very likely join Rod Marinelli as a Lions HC that went 0-3 in Lions Thanksgiving Day Games.

Detroit News predictions: Lions vs. Texans
...........
As long as the game is close or the Lions are ahead, I think for the most part the Lions will provide Matthew Stafford with much better protection than was the case at Carolina once the Panthers built a 14-0 lead in the 3rd QTR.

Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans: Dave Birkett's scouting report, prediction
.........
Dave Birkett gave the Lions the edge in every unit / facet matchup except the Texans passing game vs. the Lions pass Defense. Yet, he's predicting the Texans will win by 14 points. In essence, he's saying that that Lions are no match for DeShaun Watson and the Texans passing game. This, even with the Texans not having Randall Cobb and Kenny Stills available. And this article was written before Amani Oruwariye was listed as Questionable with a back injury, on today's injury report. The Lions pass Defense, including preventing DeShaun Watson from beat the Lions with his legs, needs to step up.

Detroit News scouting report: Texans at Lions
......
If the Lions lose this game, more than the Lions injury situation, the COVID-19 situation is what could prevent Shelia Ford Hamp from firing Matt Patricia and / or Bob Quinn in the coming hours or days.

Behind Enemy Lines: Previewing the Texans' Week 12 game with Lions Wire
.........
..........
This is a game in which it would make sense to give LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin many more snaps on Defense than he gets in a typical game.
If Jarrad Davis isn't being adversely affected by the knee injury he's been dealing with, I hope Davis has a much greater workload on Defense as well. The Lions need speed to deal with DeShaun Watson better.

Lions and Texans meet with coaches whose jobs are not secure
..........
njuries have reduced some of JJ Watt's physical ability. To Watt's credit, he demonstrated this past Sunday in the Texans win over the Patriots that he can still be a differential player. Watt is a relentless player and a tremendous leader on and off the field.

NFL games on Thanksgiving Day: Schedule guide, game picks, fantasy football tips, odds, injuries and more
Texans (3-7) at Lions (4-6) 12:30 p.m. ET | CBS Matchup rating: 24.2 | Spread: HOU -3 (51.5)
What to watch for: Is this Matt Patricia's final stand as Detroit's coach? After three double-digit losses in the Lions' past four games (and losing a 21-point lead in the team's one victory during that stretch), things are pretty dire for the third-year coach. How Detroit responds, knowing how hot its coach's seat is -- in its only nationally televised game of the season -- is the biggest storyline for either team in an otherwise forgettable matchup. -- Michael Rothstein
Bold prediction: Texans running back Duke Johnson will rush for a season-high 75 yards. The Texans' running game has struggled all season, and in his two games starting for the injured David Johnson, Duke Johnson has combined for 69 yards on 24 carries. But this week, the Texans face the 30th-ranked run defense in the NFL, with the Lions allowing an average of 139 rushing yards per game. -- Sarah Barshop
Stat to know: Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson already has five games with at least 300 passing yards this season, tied for the most in a single season in his career (2018). Only Matt Schaub has had more such games in a single season in Texans history (nine in 2009 and seven in 2010).
Injuries: Texans | Lions
What to know for fantasy: Duke Johnson's Week 11 production was underwhelming, but the fact that he got 76.9% of Houston's running back carries holds weight as the Texans face the league's worst defense against fantasy RBs this season. See Week 12 rankings.
Betting nugget: Detroit is 6-2 against the spread (ATS) in its past eight Thanksgiving games (covered last season). Read more.
Barshop's pick: Texans 24, Lions 17 Rothstein's pick: Texans 31, Lions 17 FPI prediction: HOU, 56.1% (by an average of 2.1 points)
Thanksgiving Day throwback: The Texans and Lions met on Thanksgiving in 2012 in a game remembered for some controversy. Texans running back Justin Forsett scored an 81-yard rushing touchdown despite replays showing multiple Lions players tackling him and his knee and elbow both touching the ground near midfield. But a challenge flag from Detroit coach Jim Schwartz negated the automatic booth review of the scoring play, and the Texans went on to win 34-31 on an overtime field goal from Shayne Graham.
........
If the Lions decide to often use an extra DB to match up better against DeShaun Watson and the Texans passing game, it wouldn't be surprising if Duke Johnson has a better rushing performance than in his previous two games as a starter. Winning the game is the objective, not winning the stat sheet.

Weird situation, depleted offence and defence, backup players out of the hat ... I don't know what to expect (look at PJ Walker last week !!) DeShaun Watson is a double threat and the Lions front seven is not known for his speed. That's what I fear the most.
Unfortunately for the Texans, GG Watt is not the stud he once was, not double-team on every down anymore, but he is still a leader on the field, the kind of player the Lions are missing.

Detroit Lions Week 12 inactives: D'Andre Swift is INACTIVE
....
With D'Andre Swift out, on top of Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola, the Lions lack the same firepower as was the case at Carolina. Because of this, the Lions will have to prove that the team can win before I pick them to win again under these circumstances.
Prediction: Texans 27, Lions 16.
