MLive’s first NFL power rankings of 2020: Lions open in all-too-familiar territory Updated 12:43 PM; Today 12:36 PM
No. 21 -- Chicago Bears (1-0): Mitchell Trubisky tossed three fourth-quarter touchdowns on a ravaged Lions secondary to cap Chicago’s dramatic 27-23 win. The Bears were down 23-6 heading into the fourth but still walked away with their fifth straight victory against Detroit. Bears back David Montgomery had a solid outing coming off a groun injury, and tight end Jimmy Graham is still a problem if he can post someone up. Week 2: vs. Giants
No. 27 -- Detroit Lions (0-1): Detroit went into the fourth quarter holding a 23-6 lead against a fluttering Bears offense. The Lions went into the game without third-overall cornerback Jeff Okudah, and then lost fellow corners Justin Coleman and Desmond Trufant. Mitchell Trubisky took advantage with three fourth-quarter touchdowns. Classically, the Lions drove down the field in the final minute to only watch their last-ditch effort bounce off the hands of rookie running back D’Andre Swift. That’s 13 losses in Detroit’s last 14 games. Week 2: at Packers
........
A case can be made for the Lions to be ranked a little higher. But when you start the season off like so many other games turned out last season, it's hard to argue with the # 27 ranking.
