Are the Detroit Lions really considering not starting Tracy Walker at safety in Week 1?
...........
This thread relates to the following thread:
Lions 2020 Training Camp Preview
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/698/lions-2020-training-camp-preview
I expressed the following in that thread:
The Lions probably will use 3 Safety packages pretty frequently.
In packages with 2 Safeties, I can envision Will Harris at SS over Tracy Walker because Harris is probably a better fit in the box vs. the run.
A Safety rotation is different than a rotation on the Offensive Line. On an O'-Line, the chemistry and synchronization needed is much more complex than at Safety.
I understand and appreciate the call for Tracy Walker to be on the field for practically every play he's relatively healthy, in games with the outcome in doubt. Yet, at least for now, I am comfortable with snap total allocation decisions by the coaches, including on specific snaps (plays).

Lions’ Tracy Walker vows to put down year behind him: ’I will be better, I can guarantee that’
........
Good job by Tracy Walker taking responsibility for his disappointing season.
Tracy Walker clearly played much better as a FS the last couple of seasons than as a box Safety and in the Slot. This is something I expressed in another thread recently. With the Lions very likely moving on from Duron Harmon, I hope the new team brass gives Walker the opportunity to compete to be the Lions primary FS in 2021. With the 2021 season being the final season under Walker's rookie contract, there's plenty of financial incentive for Walker to have.a bounce back season.
