Hopefully, Matt Prater is back on track. Kicking is such a mental / confidence game. Look at Dan Bailey from the Vikings, despite his 10 years of experience, he is on a bad streak, missed all 4 this week (1 PAT - 3 FG) after having missed 3 last week (2 PAT - 1 FG) (93% FG last season ... 66% this season) !

Another prime example of what you mentioned is the kicking struggles that Packers K Mason Crosby had in Detroit in October, 2018. Much like with what transpired in Tampa the other day with Dan Bailey's costly missed kicks for the Vikings, the difference in the Lions win over the Packers in Detroit in 2018 might well have been the unexpected struggles of a long time proven kicker. Crosby did a great job in putting his nightmarish afternoon behind him. With his 58 yard FG in Detroit this past Sunday the explanation point.

Reliable and experienced kickers are not legion, it seems difficult to pass the Prater option.

The post Jason Hanson era prior to Matt Prater becoming unexpected available is exhibit A of what you expressed.
