Beginning the season with 2 divisional opponents puts an even greater emphasis for the Lions to be ready physically and mentally at the start of the regular season. The Lions must at least win one of these two games.
One thing in particular that stands out about the Lions-Jaguars game scheduled for October 18 is the Lions have a bye the previous week. Time will tell if that proves significant in the game. Yet, there's no question that having the previous week off, before going to Jacksonville in mid October for a 1pm game, is favorable for a road team. This, compared to playing the previous week.
The month of December is especially challenging on paper. The good news is 3 out of the final 4 games are in Detroit.
It remains to be seen what the stakes will be for the Vikings in the regular season finale.

10 quick thoughts on the Detroit Lions’ 2020 schedule
…………..
I rather the Lions have the bye in week # 5 than the Lions playing in Jacksonville in an early afternoon game in mid October, NOT coming off a bye.
The game at Tennessee on December 19 or 20 has the potential to be a cold weather game, with snow, sleet, freezing rain, and/ or plenty of wind realistic possibilities.
The Lions lost 3 straight games on Thanksgiving Day, with the first one coming against the Vikings in 2017.
The Texans were the Lions previous most recent AFC opponent on Thanksgiving Day.
Regarding the current schedule with no prime time games:
The Lions being able to keep a consistent schedule routine the vast majority of weeks in the regular season could turn some close losses into close wins.
