Jets release Darryl Roberts
Lions sign Darryl Roberts
……………….
Because Daryl Roberts was a 7th Round pick with the Patriots in 2015 ( he never played a regular or post season game for them ), spent two training camps with them, and played for the divisional opponent Jets during two seasons Matt Patricia was the Patriots DC, the Lions brass has plenty of familiarity with Roberts.
With the Jets changing GMs after the 2019 Draft, Roberts (in 2019 ) not playing to the level he did in the 2018 season, and his contract, it's not surprising that the Jets released him this off-season.
Because Roberts has experience as a starter, has also played Safety ( in addition to CB ), and can contribute favorable on Special Teams, it made sense for the Lions to add him. This is assuming the contract is at or close to the NFL Veteran Minimum. Roberts probably needs to have a strong summer to land a roster spot with the Lions in the regular season.

Report: Detroit Lions agree to 1-year deal with ex-Jets CB Darryl Roberts
………………….
Darryl Roberts turns 30 in November. I think it's realistic to believe that Roberts can get back to his 2018 level. Though Roberts wasn't a Pro Bowl caliber CB that season, he would at the very least be a good depth piece if he plays like he did that season. Roberts' PFF Grade for the 2018 season was 68.9. Though PFF grades can be misleading, they can be valuable as part of the analysis of a player.
