Lions bring in Chase Daniel to back up Matthew Stafford

It's good to see the Lions address the team's # 2 QB situation in a meaningful way.
My take on Chase Daniel is he can be a bridge in the process of the Lions developing a QB with better physical skills. Daniel has noticeable limitations from a physical sense. Yet, from an experience/ exposure, mental, and overall intangible standpoints, Daniel is amongst the best options for being an NFL # 2 QB.
Once more information is available about the structure of the contract Chase Daniel is expected to sign with the Lions, it will be easier to assess the signing from a salary cap standpoint. Clearly though, Lions 0-8 record in 2019 without Matthew Stafford on the field is at least a partial reflection of why the Lions couldn't go with only bottom dollar QB options behind Stafford again.

Matthew Stafford glad to have Chase Daniel with Lions
……………………
Since the Lions moved on from Dan Orlovsky for the 2nd time, the only long time veteran QB the Lions have had as a backup to Matthew Stafford was Matt Cassel ( 2018 season ). IMHO, Chase Daniel is a better option than Matt Cassel was.
It's good to see that Matthew Stafford and Chase Daniel have known each other for a long time and have had communication over the years. With both looking forward to being teammates. I think both know what their respective roles are, which is a plus for the Lions.
