This is surprising news, at least on this end. Even with the Vikings freeing up plenty of salary cap space, including extending Kirk Cousins' contract for 2 years earlier today, it didn't look like the Vikings would use the Franchise Tag on Anthony Harris. If I were in Harris' position, I would sign the Tag contract ASAP.

I don't believe the Vikings will trade Anthony Harris unless they get the equivalent of at least a 4th Round pick in 2020 or a 3rd Round Pick in 2021.

The Lions own 3rd Round pick and Jarrad Davis would be compensation I would be comfortable with in a trade for Yannick Ngakoue. The two remaining concerns would be the contract it would take to get Ngakoue signed beyond 2020 and that Chase Young could be available with pick # 3. The Lions would likely pass on Young if a trade for Ngakoue occurs ( assuming the Lions sign him to a long term contract. ).

IMHO, it would be a mistake for the Lions to give up pick # 35 in Round 2 and pick # 67 in Round 3 for Yannick Ngakoue. The contract/ salary factor remains a huge concern. That much more with the high compensation to acquire him.

The risk Anthony Harris is taking by not signing the Franchise Tag is the Vikings could remove the tag, hence the approximate $ 11.441 million of guaranteed money associated with the tag would no longer be guaranteed. NFL teams have less salary cap space than when the FA Period began on March 18.

With the Jaguars drafting DE-OLB K’Lavon Chaisson with pick # 20, they are far better prepared to move on from Yannick Ngakoue if a good trade offer comes their way in the hours, days, and months ahead. The Jaguars certainly have more leverage in 2020 than Ngakoue does.
