Even with the Lions having major needs and question marks on the Defensive Side of the ball, I believe there's a realistic chance the Lions will draft an Offensive Lineman in the 1st Round. Providing, that the Lions trade down at least once in the round. The Lions have drafted two Offensive Lineman in Round 1 in Bob Quinn's 4 drafts as the team's GM. This, combined with need and long term uncertainty on the O-Line, likely puts an Offensive Lineman in play at a spot lower than pick # 3.

These Combine numbers by Mekhi Becton and Tristan Wirfs are indeed off the charts. Knowing how much value Bob Quinn puts on Offensive Lineman, both players will likely be on the microscope of the Lions brass leading up to the NFL Draft. Yet, I still don't think the Lions will draft either player or another Offensive Lineman with pick # 3 in the draft.

Jedrick Wills didn't have a record setting Combine. But based on the events/ tests he participated in, I would classify Wills as having a strong Combine.

Being that Cowboys T Tyron Smith was a RT with USC and didn't play LT, and developed into an elite NFL LT, I think that will help Wills in terms of when he gets drafted. My guess is he's taken anywhere from pick # 4 to pick # 14. If the Lions trade down, I think he would be in the conversation as one of the players the Lions would consider. The Alabama background could easily put him on top of the Lions Draft Board for Offensive Lineman.

There's a good chance at least 6 Offensive Tackle prospects will be drafted in Round 1, with 7 a realistic possibility.

A solid case can be made that Andrew Thomas is the top Offensive Tackle prospect in this Draft.

John Simpson is my Mock Draft Projection for the Lions with Pick # 85 in Round 3. I think Simpson is selected somewhere in Round 3. At the latest, Round 4.

Because Hal Vaita can play any of the Tackle and Guard positions, the Lions have draft flexibility regarding Offensive Lineman.

Matt Peart looks like a good option, especially long term, if available with pick # 67 early in Round 3, and the Lions don't address the Offensive Line before that. Connecticut HC Randy Edsall was on the Lions 2016 Coaching Staff. the first year Bob Quinn was Lions GM. The two have a long time football relationship. I'm confident Quinn has discussed Peart in-depth with Edsall.

Saints take Michigan center Cesar Ruiz with No. 24 pick

The Saints drafting an interior Offensive Lineman was probably the 2nd greatest surprise to me in the 1st Round of this draft ( Only behind the Packers drafting a QB in the round. ).Especially, after they re-signed G Andrus Peat to a multi-year contract back in March and the selection of Erik McCoy in Round 2 in 2019.

As a result of the Cesar Ruiz selection by the Saints with pick # 24, I think the Saints are preparing to move on from RG Larry Warford. If the Saints release Warford or he's willing to restructure his contract as part of a trade to the Lions, I think the Lions should seriously consider bringing back to Detroit.

Larry Warford only turns 29 in June. If Warford wants to come back to the Lions, a trade and a restructured contract that makes sense for both parties seems like something that is much more than a pipe dream.
