Lions 2018 awards: Kenny Golladay makes the splash plays to take offensive MVP…………………………. I certainly agree with the choice of Kenny Golladay as the Lions 2018 season Offensive MVP.
One of Bob Quinn's best decisions in his first 3 seasons as Lions GM was to trade down in Round 3 in 2017 and still land Golladay.
In addition to everything else mentioned in the article, Golladay is an asset as a blocker. This is especially important with the greater emphasis the Lions are putting in the running game.

Lions 2018 awards: Damon Harrison transformed run 'D' to earn defensive MVP………………………. I strongly agree that Damon 'Shacks' Harrison was the Lions Defensive MVP in the 2018 season despite only playing 10 games for the Lions. I
n addition to the great run Defense Harrison provided and his positive impact on Defensive teammates play, Harrison exceeded my expectations as a pass rusher. Harrison's power / strength/ bulk combo made it at the very least challenging for most interior Offensive Lineman to handle Harrison's bull rush one on one.
Darius Slay is the only other Lions Defensive Player who should be in the conversation for the Lions Defensive MVP for the 2018 season.

Lions 2018 awards: Matt Prater’s steadiness amid chaos earns special teams MVP………………………….. Though I agree with the choice of Matt Prater as the Lions Special Teams MVP for the 2018 season, I think Charles Washington is a close 2nd. Washington only played 13 games because a hamstring injury at Arizona ended his season. The Lions overall Special Teams Coverage units didn't have a good season. Yet, Washington played at a very high level in Special Teams Coverage.
Regarding Prater, even with the missed FG at Buffalo in the 4th QTR, the Lions got the ball back on Offense. But the Offense went 3 and out and the unit never had the ball again. Many, many NFL teams wish they had a FG/ PAT Kicker on Prater's level.

Lions 2018 awards: Kerryon Johnson solves rushing riddle for best rookie Updated Jan 14, 2:35 PM; Posted Jan 14, 6:30 AM…………………. Though the Lions only had 6 draft selections in 2018 and 7th Round Pick FB Nick Bawden missed the entire off-season because of a knee injury, the production and performance levels from this Lions rookie crop offers a plentiful amount of hope for the Lions moving forward.
I agree with the Kerryon Johnson choice as the Lions best rookie in the 2018. Johnson demonstrated complete RB skills often.
A strong case can be made though that Da'Shawn Hand deserves the award. Hand exceeded my expectations as a rookie, both against the run and as a pass rusher. Lack of consistency and production led to him surprisingly falling to the 4th Round. With the Lions as a rookie, Hand performed more consistently from a favorable standpoint than one could have realistically expected.

Lions 2018 awards: Kenny Golladay fills big shoes for most improved
……………….
Kenny Golladay wasn't the last pick of Round 3 of the 2017 Draft. He was the last pick ( # 96 overall ) prior to the Compensatory Picks in that Round.
As improved as Kenny Golladay was from his rookie season, my choice for the Lions most improved player is A'Shawn Robinson.
After a disappointing 2nd season in the NFL with the Lions, Robinson didn't have a good pre-season. Robinson was inactive for the regular season opener vs. the Jets. Robinson was a bright spot at SF the following Sunday. He continued to be much more often than not until a knee injury ended his season vs. the Vikings in Game # 15. That knee injury, along with the desperation TD pass caught by TE Kyle Rudolph on the final play of the first half, were the turning points of the game in the eventual one sided loss for the Lions. Robinson became a major asset vs. the run in 2018 and even contribution some as a pass rusher. While Jarrad Davis benefited greatly on the field as a result of the Damon 'Shacks' Harrison trade, Robinson was much improved even before the trade.

Lions 2018 awards: Matthew Stafford’s inexplicable year earns most disappointing
………………..
After the loss to the Jets, Matthew Stafford played well enough for the Lions to win the next 5 games. The Lions went 3-2 in those games. Stafford didn't play well enough against the Seahawks in Game # 7, especially in the 4th QTR. Two days later, Golden Tate was traded to the Eagles. That by itself contributed greatly to Stafford's numbers and overall performance level going down substantially from the 5 game period that he played well enough to win in each game. Hence, I'm less critical of Stafford's season than most Lions fans. Especially, with injuries depleting the Lions Offense for the final 6 games.
I'm not blaming Ziggy Ansah for his shoulder injury that limited him to 7 games. Including two that he missed well more than half of the remainder of the game. But the contribution the Lions received from Ansah because of the shoulder injury was more disappointing to me than the contribution from any other Lions player in the 2018 season.
