Lions ditch salary cap expert even with $50 million ready to spend
Williams was one of the assistants Matt Patricia retained from Jim Caldwell’s staff. He joined the organization in 2015, which had him one of the longest-tenured coaches on the current staff. However, Patricia has made moves to push some of those types out in recent months, from firing special teams coordinator Joe Marciano to moving on from offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter.
Those moves, plus the firing of offensive assistant Derius Swinton, have left the Lions with four openings on their coaching staff.
