Detroit Lions trade Quandre Diggs to Seahawks for fifth-round pick
………….
This thread is a continuation of the following thread:
Quandre Diggs quotes/ info: 2019 season
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/330/quandre-diggs-quotes-info-season
The Lions received a 3rd Round Pick from the Eagles for Golden Tate. Ironically, Will Harris, the player who the Lions drafted in the 3rd Round ( after a trade up with the Vikings ), probably will end up replacing Diggs for tbe most part.
Though Quandre Diggs hasn't performed this season on the level that he did in the latter part of the 2017 season and in 2018, he was a leader on the Lions. That, combined with the Lions now having less depth at Safety, are my main concerns about the trade.
What happens both in terms of the game vs. the Giants and regarding possible one or more trades are probably the key questions with the Lions. Will Bob Quinn make any other trades this week or wait to see what transpires against the Giants? Trading for a RB is a realistic possibility early next week but probably not if the Lions loss to tbe Giants. It's possible Quinn decides to make a trade for RB sooner. The 5th Round pick from tbe Seahawks does give the Lions some trade leverage.

Lions Why the Detroit Lions traded Quandre Diggs
………………
Understandably, Joe.
While I prefer that the trade wasn't made, the Golden Tate trade last season was much more disturbing to me. Even with the Lions getting better trade compensation. I think there's a noticeably better chance the adverse affect on the Lions won't be as great because of this trade than what transpired following the Tate trade.

It’s not just the fact that Quandre Diggs was traded; it’s the entire trade package. I would not have been happy if the trade was Diggs for a 5th round pick; but the fact that the Lions added a 7th round pick adds to my disgruntlement.

Joe, in addition to what you mentioned, the Seahawks 5th Round Pick in 2020 very likely will be in the bottom half of the Round, excluding Compensatory Picks as part of the equation.
The added salary cap space for the Lions is arguably the most valuable thing the Lions received from the trade.

At first I was shocked but after reading some things it actually isn’t a horrible trade. First, Diggs’ play has significantly dropped off since his rookie year. This year PFF ranked him 61st among safeties and he’s missed 8 tackles this year (among the leagues worst). Also, I read that we could use the 5th round pick to get a RB at the deadline. When you are 2-3-1 you don’t get to worry about loyalty. Loyalty is why we haven’t won a championship since 1957. Sorry Darius Slay....

Batchrules, thanks for your thoughts.
How the Lions respond Sunday AND what transpires before the NFL Trade Deadline is over could easily be telling about tbe present and future of the Lions. These next few days are critical for the Lions.

Quandre Diggs on Lions split: ‘It was more of a control thing’ ………………..
For what it's worth: The hamstring injury that Quandre Diggs suffered against the Chiefs, which keep him out of the MNF game in Green Bay, before he returned for the Vikings game, has kept him out of the 2 games with the Seahawks ( since the trade ). Diggs had Limited Practice yesterday. Hence, Diggs likely wouldn't have been able to help the Lions in the team's most recent 2 games.
Based on the trade and Quandre Diggs' comments, it wouldn't be surprised if the Lions trade Darius Slay in the off-season. Especially, since Slay turns 29 in January and will have only 1 year remaining on his contract.

Revisiting the Quandre Diggs trade one month later
……………..
One conclusion I will make already is a trade couldn't have worked out better for a player than the Lions trade of Quandre Diggs to the Seahawks has worked out for him. Diggs has a realistic chance of playing in the Super Bowl this season.

Lions GM Bob Quinn has no regrets about trading Quandre Diggs
……………….
This thread relates to the following thread:
Packers 23, Lions 20 : Game # 16 ( 2019 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/551/packers-23-lions-game-2019
If everything else with the Lions injury situation would have transpired the same once the Lions traded Quandre Diggs to the Seahawks, my guess is the Lions would have won two more games. Maybe a little more than not. Certainly not close to enough for the Lions to reach the playoffs.
What transpires in 2020 with the Lions Safeties, the same cap money the trade freed up, and the 5th Round pick draft resource the Lions acquired in the trade will paint a more accurate picture whether the trade was in the Lions best interest. Right now, I'm skeptical unless proven otherwise.
