5 things to watch: No Melvin Gordon, no problem for Chargers
…………….
Philip Rivers is in his 16th NFL season.
Taylor Decker was a teammate of Joey Bosa with Ohio State. They both were taken in the 1st Round of the 2016 Draft. Bosa was pick # 3. Decker was pick # 16. Right now, it's fair to say that Bosa is a much better NFL player. Whether Decker can get back on track this week is a question that's critical in terms of this game.

Chargers at Lions
MDS’s take: Both teams are coming off hard-fought overtime games, but I think the Lions are going to have a tougher time regrouping after blowing a big early lead and ending up in a tie. The Chargers should improve to 2-0.
MDS’s pick: Chargers 23, Lions 17.
Florio’s take: The Chargers, as usual, are falling apart. The Lions need to build a lead and hold a lead this week. They can do it by running the ball right at the L.A. defense.
Florio’s pick: Lions 20, Chargers 17.
…………..
With the Chargers Injury situation being acute and the game being in Detroit, this is a game that's there for the taking for the Lions.

Lions preparing for different, ‘equally as difficult challenge’ in QB Philip Rivers
……………
With all of the Chargers coaching and system changes, front office changes, injuries ( which have been problematic for them season after season ), and the franchise move from San Diego to Los Angeles, the one constant has been Philip Rivers. Many San Diego Chargers fans that want to see the franchise fail because of the move by owner Dean Spanos to Los Angeles, still root for Rivers. He's a tremendous representative for the Chargers on and off the field.
Even in Rivers' 16th NFL season, he's still one of the better QBs in the NFL. Rivers knows how to play effectively through adversity. The Lions have a major challenge, even with the numerous injuries the Chargers are dealing with.

Detroit News predictions: Lions vs. Chargers
…………….
The Lions should improve as the season moves along. But if the Lions don't win at least 2 of the next 5 games, it's likely that the Lions will be playing out the string late in the season again.

View from the other side: Lions vs. Chargers
……………
The Chargers 0-2 record stat in allowing a 300 yard passing game since 2007 is very likely a mistake. With the NFL becoming much more of a passing league this than it was decades ago, I'm highly confident every NFL Defense gave up 300 or more yards passing in more than 2 games since 2007.

Lions rule out Taylor Decker, Jarrad Davis and Chargers
Detroit Lions inactives: Taylor Decker won't play vs. L.A. Chargers
………….
The only change from last week in Arizona in terms of tbe Lions Inactive List is Taylor Decker is out and Oday Aboushi is Active.
The loss of LB Jatavis Brown is significant for the Chargers, as he has unique play making abilities.
WR Mike Williams is Active for Los Angeles. How much his knee injury will limit him, if at all, is a key question for this game.
My Prediction is Lions 23, Chargers 20. Even with Taylor Decker and Jarrad Davis out, the Chargers are dealing with much more injury losses. Not to mention Melvin Gordon's contract holdout. This is a game tbe Lions need to win and should expect to win if this team is going to be at least a serious playoff contender in a strong NFC.
