Matt Patricia open to personnel, schematic changes on Lions defense
…………..
This thread relates to the following thread:
Vikings 42, Lions 30: Game # 6 ( 2019 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/436/vikings-42-lions-game-2019?page=1&scrollTo=1859
Because the Lions lack pass rushing edge rushers compared to most teams, I have doubts that changing the scheme is going to significantly improve the Lions Defense. Especially, over the course of the remainder of the season. The injuries the Lions are dealing with upfront, particularly to Da'Shawn Hand and Mike Daniels, contributed greatly to the problems the Lions had defending the pass yesterday. Especially, with Darius Slay not being his usual self before exiting the game with a hamstring injury.
Based on the players the Lions have available on Defense, I think the foundation of the plan should be stressing the proper techniques and assignments with the primary Defensive scheme in place. Then in the off season, make an evaluation of how to proceed for 2020.

Doesn’t matter what schematic changes are made if the defensive personnel can’t tackle players on the opposing team.

Agreed, Joe
The game vs. the Vikings the other day was one of the worst tackling games I have seen from the Lions in a long time.

……………..
Good experienced QBs have thrived against the Lions, in large part because of the Lions lack of a pass rush ( relatively speaking ).
