There's probably greater than a 50% chance Isaiah Williams will be claimed off waivers or signed off the Lions Practice Squad in the coming weeks (assuming Williams is signed to the Lions P.S.) if he clears waivers.
In past seasons, I would have been disturbed that the Lions released a player with the potential/ skills that Williams has. While I wish the Lions could have kept him on the 53 man roster, I understand the decision. The Lions have a legit chance to reach and win the Super Bowl this season. That needs to be a primary focal point. Though Williams has plenty of upside potential, he's not someone who the Lions in essence must keep on the roster.
Because TE Shane Zylstra was elevated from the P.S. for the last 3 games, he's no longer eligible to be elevated from the P.S. in the regular season. I'm anticipating Zylstra to be signed to the Lions 53 man roster today or tomorrow.
