The contract extension David Montgomery received from the Lions speaks volumes to how well he's played for the Lions, his overall intangibles, and how much the Lions brass values Montgomery. Not many 27 year old RB's get a contract of this value with over 1 1/2 seasons remaining on their contract. Montgomery has clearly exceeded the value of his contract. The Lions are rewarding him for that and keeping him in the Lions fold an additional 2 seasons. The only downside is if age catches up to Montgomery in the next 2 or 3 seasons.
David Montgomery earned the respect that he's received from Lions Offensive Lineman, other teammates, and coaches. He's been one of the Lions best UFA signings in team history.
A key factor in whether there will be a restructure of David Montgomery's contract for 2027 and the extent of a possible restructure, is how much the NFL Salary Cap will be projected to be for 2027, as it gets much closer to 2027?
