Lions’ Frank Ragnow banking on experience in move back to center
……………..
Of the Lions interior Offensive Lineman, Frank Ragnow even back at his college position ( Center ) is the least of my concerns for the 2019 season. With all of the practice reps and pre-season snaps Ragnow is expected to get, he should be ready to play winning football when the regular season opens in Arizona.

Lions’ Frank Ragnow reportedly only has ‘minor ankle sprain’

DETROIT -- It seems Detroit has avoided the worst with at least one of its injured first-round picks. Frank Ragnow only has a “minor ankle sprain,” according to NFL Network. There’s no telling how much recovery time he’ll need, but he sure seems to have avoided more long-term injuries like a broken bone or torn ligament.
Ragnow injured the ankle in the second quarter of a 24-20 loss on Friday night against Buffalo at Ford Field. He didn’t put any weight on the leg as he came off the field and was immediately helped to the locker room. Coming on the heels of an ugly injury to fellow first-rounder Jarrad Davis, fears grew Detroit might be out two key starters before the start of the season on Sept. 8 against Arizona.
Now that Ragnow’s injury appears to be more minor, focus will turn to Davis, who was carted to the locker room with a leg injury of his own. Trainers were looking at the shin/calf area of his leg, indicating he could also have an ankle injury. David Chao, the former team doctor for the Chargers, says the best-case scenario is a severe high ankle sprain. The worst case is a fracture/dislocation with ligament tear that would require surgery. Jahlani Tavai has been Detroit’s fourth linebacker throughout the offseason, and got a steady diet of first-team reps because of injuries to Davis and Christian Jones. Jalen Reeves-Maybin could also be in play for an expanded role after enjoying a nice summer of work with the defense. He even picked off a pass against Buffalo, although it was called back because of penalty.
Lions coach Matt Patricia said after the game he didn’t know the severity of the injury for Davis or Ragnow. He is expected to speak with reporters by phone this afternoon.

If the information in this article on Frank Ragnow appears to be the case, the Lions are very fortunate. The Lions depth on the Offensive Line is one of my greatest concerns with the team at this point in time. Losing Ragnow for much of the season or longer would be a huge setback. It looks like the Lions escaped disaster in this case.

VERY good news...IF it proves to be accurate. I just don’t think his roster spot could be filled by anyone on the current roster. Sure, Graham Glasgow would move over to center; but then who would replace him...the ripple effect would be difficult to overcome.

Very well stated, Joe.
Based on the current Lions roster, Kenny Wiggins would likely be tbe starting RG if Frank Ragnow is sidelined. A drop-off on the Offensive Line would occur at least to some extent.
Beyond this is the Lions would have practically no margin for error in terms of an additional injury to a starter on the Offensive Line. There's not one other O-Lineman on the roster that the coaches can realistically feel comfortable with at this point in time. I'm factoring in Tyrell Crosby still out with a concussion he suffered in the pre-season opener vs. New England and his concussion history.
