Jake Bates struggled in Wednesday's practice this week. He definitely has huge upside potential but his lack of consistency could cost the Lions in the short term.

I remain concerned that Jake Bates will wear down later this season, after playing a UFL season and the Lions not having another full time Kicker on the roster the vast majority of training camp. To keep Bates fresh, it would make a great amount of sense for Jack Fox to be used on some Kickoffs.

More growing pains are likely regarding Jake Bates. Two questions that come to mind are:

1. To what extent will Dan Campbell's strategy being affected by confidence issues he might have with Bates?

2. How patient will the Lions brass be with Bates, as the Lions are positioned as a legitimate Super Bowl contender?

One thing in particular I hope Dan Campbell and Dave Fipp decide to do is let Jack Fox handle some of the Lions Kickoffs. Jake Bates already played a UFL season this year. Having Fox handle some of the Lions Kickoffs will help keep Bates fresher both physically and mentally.
