It's a credit to Ben Johnson, his family, and the Lions organization that Johnson is still the Lions Offensive Coordinator. The Lions having Johnson's services for the 2024 season is something that very likely wouldn't have happened in most NFL organizations and with most Assistant Coaches that are in high demand.

Many NFL teams, arguably most NFL teams, wouldn't have attempted a hook and lateral play when the game wasn't on the line. Dan Campbell and Ben Johnson are the norm when it comes to higher risk decisions. The same with Lions Special Teams Coordinator Dave Fipp.

On the Flea Flicker that resulted in a TD, Ben Johnson took advantage of the injury situation on the Cowboys Defense. Not having LB Eric Kendricks, who has a long history of being in Mike Zimmer's Defense, likely provided costly for the Cowboys on the play.

The good news is Hendon Hooker appeared in the 3 games because the Lions had an enormous lead in the 3 games, not because of one or more other reasons. Hooker had 3 completions on 4 attempts vs. the Jags, with his longest completion being for 21 yards in the game.

Considering that it's possible that Hooker will be needed in one or more games this season in which the outcome(s) isn't decided, I'm comfortable with Hooker having some passing opportunities when the Lions have the game wrapped up for all practical purposes. I think Ben Johnson is handling this well.

An NFL team that hires someone in the Lions Front Office as GM, who Ben Johnson has confidence in for that role, and would be in alignment with Johnson in terms of how to build a team, could be the difference for that team to land Johnson as their HC. There are other factors in whether Johnson would accept a HC with that team. But I believe it's safe to say who the GM would be ranks very high on the list for Johnson, regarding how he would proceed.
