Report: Detroit Lions trading for former 2nd-round WR Denzel Mims
..........
This is an excellent decision by Brad Holmes. The trade compensation and Denzel Mims final season of his rookie contract are very favorable for the Lions. With the Lions being 18th in the Waiver Claims process, which Mims would have been subject to, if he was released by the Jets, there's a good chance at least one team ahead of the Lions in the waiver claims process would have claimed Mims.
Denzel Mims should bring the type of vertical dimension skills that D.J. Chark provided last season for the Lions. Mims isn't as consistent as Chark but there's major upside potential with Mims. With better QB play than Mims was surrounded by in his 3 seasons with the Jets and the high level coaching Mims should receive with the Lions, I'm optimistic that he's going to help the Lions win games. Mims has the potential to help the Lions overcome the loss of Jameson Williams for the first 6 games of the season, due to Williams' NFL suspension.
Antoine Green has plenty of similarities as an NFL WR prospect that Chark and Mims have. Yet, because Green is raw, adding a more experienced WR (though Mims is far from a polished/consistent veteran) made a great amount of sense, if the cost made sense. It does make sense regarding the acquisition of Mims.

Denzel Mims: What the Lions are getting in their new WR
...........
Denzel Mims has a lot to play for in the 2023 season. Between this and being in a situation with a better QB and coaching, there's realistic hope that Mims will become a much better NFL WR than he was with the Jets.

Jets, Lions make Denzel Mims trade official
.........
Considering how little the Jets potentially got in return from the Lions for Denzel Mims, the Jets did Mims a favor in moving on from him before the start of training camp for the Lions.

New Lions WR Denzel Mims believes he's 'got the playbook down already
.....
While I'm glad Denzel Mims is working hard and he has an upbeat attitude with his opportunity with the Lions, he very likely doesn't realize that he has much more to learn regarding the Lions Playbook. Hopefully, one of the leaders on the Lions will point this out to Mims.

Lions WR Denzel Mims remains out, his Detroit future uncertain
..........
Unless the Lions brass believes Denzel Mims will be able to practice early next week, he's probably going to end up either being placed on the Waived Injured list or outright released if he's relatively healthy later by the time the cutdown to 53 has to be made. The latter would enable the Lions to sign Mims to the Practice Squad, if he clears waivers.
