I see no reason not to pick up Taylor Decker’s fifth-year option; and I certainly expect the Lions to do so.

Me neither; I don’t understand the delay. I hope it’s just because they’re so focused on the draft; and NOT because they’re actually considering not picking up the option.

Joe, that's my take. I think the draft focus for Bob Quinn overrides all other Lions football decisions this time of year.

I'm glad to see this.
There's practically no question that Bob Quinn's focus on the draft is why the decision for the Lions to pick up the 5th year option on Taylor Decker wasn't made until after the draft and in getting priority UDRFAs to agree to contracts with the Lions.

Indeed, Joe.
After seeing the already high number of 5th year options declined for 2016 1st Round Picks, it's evident that the Lions have a more favorable outlook for Taylor Decker moving forward than a large number of NFL GMs/ decision makers have for the 1st Round pick( s) from that draft on their respective rosters.

Lions' Taylor Decker rounding into form after sluggish start to season

As well as Taylor Decker has played in his last 3 games, Everson Griffen, who he likely will be matched up most against in this game, has played at a high level this season. Arguably, a Pro Bowl level. The one noticeable negative regarding Griffen's play in the 4 combined Vikings games I watched is he jumped offsides a few times. Hopefully, Mattbew Stafford can induce at least one offsides penalty against Griffen tomorrow.
