Odds watch: Lions are early favorites over the Seahawks in Week 4
..........
The spread was Lions -5.5 a few days ago. I can't recall if I saw it before or after the Lions lost a 10 point 4th Quarter lead in the 28-24 loss to the Vikings.
Unless the Lions Injury Reports in the coming days has better news than expected, I think the spread is going to drop further.

PFT’s Week 4 2022 NFL picks
Seahawks (+4.5) at Lions
MDS’s take: Geno Smith has exceeded expectations this season and should put up good numbers against a suspect Lions defense, but the Lions’ big-play offense will put plenty of points on the board as well.
MDS’s pick: Lions 31, Seahawks 28.
Florio’s take: The Seahawks simply don’t have the horses to avoid losing their third in a row.
Florio’s pick: Lions 23, Seahawks 20.

Scouting report: Detroit Lions vs. Seattle Seahawks

Jordyn Brooks is the real deal. A 3 down LB, who is one of the best off the ball run Defenders and in coverage. I think Brooks is either already a Pro Bowl Caliber LB or close to that level.
It wouldn't surprise me if Amani Oruwariye is matched up often against DK Metcalf, instead of Tyler Lockett. The quickness of Lockett could easily be too much for Oruwariye to handle.
Rashaad Penny had a monster rushing game against the Lions in the 2nd to last game of the 2021 season. Penny had 170 yards on 25 carries, with 2 TDs. Unlike with the Commanders, the Seahawks are going to be highly committed to their running game early and often. Pete Carroll puts such a great emphasis on running the ball, that this probably contributed to Russell Wilson wanting to be traded. Even with Penny having a breakout season, the Seahawks drafted Michigan St. RB Kenneth Walker III in Round 2 with Pick # 41. While the Seahawks have big time weapons in their passing game, it starts with keeping their running game in check.

The Lions need to keep the Seahawks running game in check, protect the ball, at least be close in the Special Teams battle against the Seahawks. If the Lions do all 3, I think the Lions will win this game.
A huge X factor in this game that hasn't been mentioned in any of the Lions beat writer articles I've seen is the expected increased playing time for Seahawks LB/ Edge Player Boye Mafe and OLB/ Edge player Darryl Johnson. More on them planned in an article from one of the Seahawks Beat Writers.

The Lions have been competitive in all 3 games, winning 1 of them. Unless the Lions stop being competitive in games repeatedly or if coaching decisions are being made that players start questioning, the players will very likely continue to believe the team is a path to long term success.

4 Lions who must have good games vs. the Seahawks

Reportedly, Kayode Awosika is going to start at RG for the Lions against the Seahawks. The Seahawks issues with their run Defense have been mostly on the edge, not in the interior. Assuming Awosika starts, he becomes an x-factor for the Lions, much like edge players Boye Mafe and Darryl Johnson are for the Seahawks.

With Aidan Hutchinson not on the Lions Injury Report all week, I like his chances of being impactful in this game. If the Seahawks double team Hutch often in passing situations, someone else needs to take advantage of one on one blocking.
