2022 NFL combine: Detroit Lions in prime position to add elite talent to defensive edges
...........
This looks like one of the better Defensive Edge draft crops in a while and a good Defensive Tackle crop.
The Lions will very likely draft a Defensive Edge player in the top 2 Rounds of the draft. With a Defensive Edge player, along with Notre Dame S Kyle Hamilton the most likely selection for the Lions with pick # 2 or in a slight trade down. A case can be made for either option, in large part because of the quality of the Defensive Edge Rusher crop.
An interior Defensive Lineman is in play with the Pick # 32 ( end of Round 1 ) or Pick # 34 ( Early Round 2 ) draft resources. I believe this is the case even if the Lions re-sign UFA DT Nick Williams. If the Lions make a much higher price FA investment in the Defensive Line interior, then I don't think that the Lions will select a DT until at the earliest the Lions expected Compensatory Pick late in Round 3.

Could Georgia DE Travon Walker be a candidate for the Lions pick at No. 2 overall?
..........
Travon Walker and his Georgia Defensive Line teammate DT Jordan Davis helped themselves immensely as a result of the Combine.
While Walker's stats are nothing close to special, he played in the Best College Football Conference, on the team that won the 2021 Season National Championship. The Lions and every team with a pick anywhere close to pick # 2 need to assess whether Walker projects as a much more productive NFL DE than College Defensive Lineman? Much like another former SEC Defensive End, Danielle Hunter became with the Vikings, compared to when he was with LSU.

Tests confirm torn Achilles for Michigan EDGE David Ojabo .........
Unfortunate major setback for David Ojabo.
As much as it would be a great outcome under the situation, how realistic is it for Ojabo to be back in game action in less than 7 months of a torn Achilles Tendon? Until / unless proven otherwise, LA Rams RB Cam Akers is a rare exception, not even close to being the norm.

The Detroit Lions sent a huge contingent to Oregon's pro day to watch Kayvon Thibodeaux .....
An added benefit for the Lions sending 7 people to Oregon for the Pro Day of Kayvon Thibodeaux and other Oregon Draft Prospects, is that other teams, which have serious interest in landing Thibodeaux, will be aware of the Lions paying close attention to him. As a result, it's possible (though I'm not counting on it), one or more of these teams will be willing to give the Lions a trade offer for pick # 2.

He probably won't see the field until the second half of the season. And he won't be his impact self until 2023.

One team that immediately comes to mind is the Kansas City Chiefs. They have 8 draft picks in the first 4 Rounds in the 2022 Draft. With two picks in each of those rounds.
If the Chiefs are seriously interested in drafting David Ojabo, they might have to use pick # 62 in the latter part of Round 2 on him. I think it's more likely than not that Ojabo will be drafted before the next scheduled Chiefs pick, # 94 in Round 3. If Ojabo is still available in the picks # 80 to # 85 range, the Chiefs should seriously consider trading up for him, if they believe Ojabo will regain all or the vast majority of his pre-injury skills.

Lions 2022 draft preview: Detroit looks to add more depth, pressure at defensive tackle
..........
Devonte Wyatt, Travis Jones, and Perrion Winfrey should be in the conversation with picks # 32 and # 34, if still available. If the Lions don't end up with Trevon Walker with the pick # 2 draft resource and don't land Jordan Davis in a trade down from pick # 2, one of the three DTs would likely make a great amount of sense with pick # 32 or # 34.
DeMarvin Leal is worth considering with pick # 66 in the early part of Round 3, if available, and if the Lions don't address the interior D-Line in the first 2 Rounds. Leaf had a breakout season in 2021, with 8 1/2 sacks, which is a high total for a player who plays mostly in the Defensive Interior Line.
Eric Johnson was discussed in the following thread:
