Detroit Lions considered 3-point underdogs for Halloween game against Philadelphia Eagles
............
Darius Slay was a difference maker in the Lions victory over the Eagles in 2016, including a game sealing interception. That game was the first regular season loss for then Eagles QB Carson Wentz and the first for the Eagles that season. The last time the Lions Defense forced a turnover in which the opposition didn't get the ball back was the Lions 13-10 win over the LA Chargers in game # 2 of the 2019 season. Again, it was Darius Slay with an interception ( against Philip Rivers.).

Former Lions star Darius Slay all smiles about Ford Field homecoming, Detroit fried chicken too
..............
Darius Slay is certainly missed. His personality would have been a good fit for Dan Campbell and his staff. Not to mention, Slay's ball skills and overall coverage abilities.
Having said all of this, if the Lions would been in the rebuilding mode if Slay was still with the team in the winter and he remained unsigned heading into e Agency, there's a good chance the Lions wouldn't have made the type of offer needed to keep Slay in the fold. I don't think the Lions under Brad Holmes would have tagged the 30 year old Slay.

PFT’s NFL Week Eight 2021 picks
Eagles (-3) at Lions
MDS’s take: I like how hard Dan Campbell has his team playing, but right now he just doesn’t have the personnel. They’ll play hard but come up short. Again.
MDS’s pick: Eagles 17, Lions 10.
Florio’s take: The 2008 Lions can stop hoping that the 2021 Lions will render them a footnote to history.
Florio’s pick: Lions 24, Eagles 16.

The Eagles are far from the most talented team in the NFL. Yet, compared to the Lions that currently have 15 players on IR and status/ health uncertainty at two CB positions with players on the 53 man roster, the Eagles have the talent advantage going into this game.

Detroit News predictions: Lions vs. Eagles
.............
Two concerns in particular regarding the Lions in the attempt to get a win against the Eagles:
1. Like James Hawkins mentioned, the Lions haven't played well in the following game after coming close to winning.
2. The Eagles likely will be more aggressive on Defense in this game because of criticism coming from their locker room regarding their passive Defensive strategy. Especially, with the Lions struggling against aggressive attacking Defenses.

Detroit News scouting report: Eagles at Lions ............
Former New York Giants HOF LB Harry Carson also played his college ball with South Carolina State.
The loss of Brandon Graham remains a huge setback for the Eagles. Both in terms of his play on the field and his leadership / intangibles.
The Lions having 10 more 1st Downs on Offense than opponents but 9 less TDs than opponents is primarily a reflection on the opposition getting many more chunk plays than the Lions have been getting.
The Lions have had two successful Onside Kickoffs this season. The first was in the 4th QTR of the season opener vs. SF.

Detroit News scouting report: Eagles at Lions
............
Even if Da'Shawn Hand is on the Game Day roster, again at the Eagles, he likely will likely will have a relatively low snap total. Hand hasn't played in a game all season, including in the pre-season. If Hand gets through this game without a significant injury and isn't traded, he probably will get many more snaps in games that follow, if he's practicing and performing well.

Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Dave Birkett’s scouting report and prediction ....
The Lions haven't scored more than 19 point in a game since the opener vs. the 49ers. This is a gane in which expectations should be the Lions scoring 20 or more points and winning. Yet, until it happens, it's difficult to give the Lions the benefit of the doubt. Especially, with the Lions not scoring a point in the first half of the game in Chicago and the game vs. Cincinnati. The Lions didn't respond well to the gut wrenching losses to Baltimore and at Minnesota.

3 matchups to watch for Lions vs Eagles in Week 8
.............
Assuming as expected Jerry Jacobs plays today against the Eagles, it remains to be seen to what extent, if any that the illness he has been dealing with, adversely affects his play.
Matt Nelson being matched up against Josh Sweat is a concern. It would even more concerning if Brandon Graham was available, with Sweat a major part of the Eagles DE rotation.

6 things to know about the Eagles ahead of the Lions' Week 8 matchup ............
The good news for both teams is the Lions and Eagles have highly favorable draft pick situations for the future. The Eagles have two 1st Round Picks in 2022 already, with a third coming from Indianapolis if QB Carson Wentz plays 75 % of the Colts snaps or 70 % with the Colts making the playoffs. The Eagles have the 1-6 Dolphins 1st Round pick. They have a good chance of having two top 10 picks in 2022.

In a good day, the Eagles are probably slightly better than their 2-5 record but Jalen Hurts can be quite inconsistent. I think this is a game the Lions can win. I'm expecting a low scoring game with both teams under 20 points.

Lions vs. Eagles: Inactive players for the Week 8 matchup include Jamaal Williams, Darren FellsI definitely agree the Lions can win and am expecting a low scoring game.
Based on the Lions not winning a game, the Lions Inactives, overall season injury situation, and not responding well early in games after late game losses vs. Baltimore and at Minnesota, I'm not giving the Lions the benefit of the doubt. Prove me wrong, Lions.
Prediction: Eagles 20, Lions 17
